I just bought a EEE PC 1201N 12.1".It has just about everything you seem to be looking for, though a bit smaller.250GB, Intel Atom n330, (1.6Ghz), NVidia Ion, 2GB RAM (upgradeable to 8). The only thing it lacks is an internal disk player.I got mine shipped for under $500.

I like OS X a lot, but Apple's laptops have always been more than I can afford for a computer. I did own a Powerbook 3800 years ago (at one time the fastest laptop on the market) and loved it.
Vista was absolutely fine by SP1. (and before really)

It only used resources at idle, when they were not being used anyway... (or if you had the stupid sidebar on)

Win 7 was so warmly received because people go so hung up on babbling about how terrible vista was they forgot to actually try it.

What were the specs of the PC you were running Vista on Jesda, and what problems were you having?

Its pretty stupid to try and make fun of him, while being an even bigger tool with the "OMG VISTA" routine.
You want the list?

Vista's implementation of the DDM is complete crap and horribly inefficient, using vastly more memory than necessary and getting credit for a large portion of Vista's horribly vast system footprint.

Vista tells you how you can use your computer, rather than doing what you tell it. UAC is only the beginning, with the OS constantly nagging, asking for verification and re-verification of instructions.

The process manager is a rotting turd, intentionally bouncing processes from thread to thread in a long-outdated holdover from the days of older hardware. This does not allow modern multi-core/thread CPUs to perform at their peak. Microsoft should have done something to modernize Vista in this aspect, but took the easy route instead. Fortunately after getting the crap scared out of them by Vista's reception, they corrected their mistake in 7.

Then there's crap like SuperFetch which is touted as a bonus but really just helps Windows eat up more of your system resources and is rarely beneficial in actual use. Fortunately, StupidFetch can be turned off.

I can go on, or get really technical about why Vista sucks if you want. Or we can just agree that Vista-hate is not merely a bandwagon, but actually a legitimate claim.

Didn't it seem like 7 hit the shelves blindingly quick? I'm used to big buildups before a launch of a new MS OS and it seemed like just as Vista was discovered to be trash, something I expected, BAM! There's 7 with very little fanfare. Seems like gates had a parallel R^D going on because he knew the truth already. I've run an XP install on my PC for years, I felt no need to "upgrade" to Vista. I was happy with 2000 honestly. good thing it seems. I don't pay blood money to mS for their application software, I use open office. f*** that little troll, Gates.

I watch Mac and PC guys ethug all the time and it's just stupid. It makes KA-vs-SR arguments seem like harvard debate club. Get a life and quit worrying about what OS someone has, jeez. I've got Winders, Linux, and Apple OSes in my house; I give a f***.

Glad to hear this. I was looking at the ASUS netbooks for myself. Just seems fun to to say EEEEEEEEEEEEE! too.

Get used to a new Windows OS every 2 years. The next windows (unofficially known as Windows 8 for the moment) is planned for a mid- 2011 release.

It was quite a few PCs, but most recently a Thinkpad X60. 2GB ram, T7200 core duo. Before you complain about my hardware specs, note that this system runs beautifully with both XP and W7 64-bit (with Aero enabled). Vista frequently choked on application launches (nothing out of the usual, opening Firefox, Powerpoint, Word, and Excel) and struggled to draw UI elements when opening a new window or just switching tasks.

W7 boots noticeably faster than Vista and XP.

I put XP back on the Thinkpad for driver compatibility reasons. When W7 gains more support for data cards and other devices (I use a hand scanner for inventory) I'll use it on the Thinkpad full time.

I've removed Vista from all of the PCs at the medical offices, downgrading them to XP to run billing programs and patient scheduling apps. There are slightly fewer crashes now, evidenced by the fact that I haven't been called out lately.

Vista is bad for business, bad for entertainment, bad for everyone. Windows 7 is a breath of fresh air.

If I had my way, I'd be in a world dominated by OS/2. I miss those days.

I'm having a funny little problem. When I hit the back button in my browser (firefox) in gmail, it doesn't go back. I have to then refresh it for it to go back. WTF?

That's how it's supposed to be. It's due to the way the Gmail site is designed. It's coded in javascript, not html, so it doesn't load a new page each time you click a link, it simply performs an action within the current page. The back button doesn't work for that. The reason reloading seems to go back is that it refreshes the page to your default inbox view.

Excuse the late response, but if you're still looking for a laptop, I'd consider the ASUS UL80VT-A1. It's got supreme battery life, switchable graphics like the Sony Jesda mentioned, and I think it has the ASUS Turbo33 mode for the extra processing power when you need.

As mentioned earlier I went ahead and ordered this laptop http://www.bestbuy.com/site/So...23951 (it's sold out online now, and the stores don't carry it).

I had it for almost a week now and so far I really like it. Keep in mind, I don't use my laptop for gaming or anything like that. It's mostly for music, watching movies, surfing the net, and all school related activities (papers, presentations etc). I don't travel with it much, besides occasionally taking it to class.

Now, with that out of the way. I really like the overall size of the laptop, 14.1" is perfect for me. My old Toshiba was 15" and I felt it was a little too bulky. The glossy black color looks very nice but it is prone to showing finger prints easily. The keyboard is excellent, the buttons are spaced apart which makes typing very easy and comfortable. The speakers are not great, however, this doesn't really bother me. I have a speaker system that I plug it into when I'm at home, and when I travel with it I never listen to anything out loud. If I did though, the speakers on the laptop would be more than sufficient. I do wish that it would have the quick buttons that let you launch a media player and then play/pause, and ff/rw with the side quick buttons. Also, there is no scroll wheel for the volume, it must be adjusted using the FN buttons or on the desktop. This would have been a nice feature to the laptop.

Now, as for the actual performance, it's great. The i5 processor and 4GB of RAM make this a very quick little machine. Everything from the boot-up time of the laptop to the launching of iTunes is very quick. The resolution is excellent. It is wide-screen (though you can adjust it), which some people don't like, but I actually prefer. With the Nvidia graphics card everything looks phenomenal, especially videos. Add to that the fact that it has a built in blue-ray disc player and it makes for a great viewing experience. In terms of performance I could not ask for anything more. However, keep in mind that I just use my laptop for the basics as mentioned above.

Overall, I think it's a great laptop and definitely worth the money I paid for it. All of the positive aspect of this laptop far outweigh all of the little things that I'm not pleased with (easily leaves finger smudges, no volume scroll wheel etc.). And anyone who is in the market for a laptop like this, I highly recommend it.

Good system. Too bad you missed that gateway that was on sale for $500 with the same specs...

For a couple days it did what I wanted it to; went back when I hit back. But just recently it went back to making me press refresh. If It's not an OS issue I'm still looking for an answer?

I'd buy a Gateway/Acer for myself, but I wouldn't normally suggest them to others.
