People...don't be like me...please use a torque wrench for everything! SIgh. As I was putting on the 4 bolts that connect the differential to the subframe I kinda tighten them too hard(i'm freaking paranoid thing will comes off). I end up stripped one of the stud . Now I can't put the last bolt back on. You think it's alrite to drive around/race/drift with just 3 bolts on? I have a Kaaz 2way so a lot of klunckin be going on...my diff will fall onto the road one day (being paranoid again)

Yep, overdoing things. For those bolts, you must of really over done them. Stripping that stud... damn. Here's what you can do, stop by a hardware shop, buy the same size stud. Get some channel locks or vice grips and back that stripped stud out of the case. Put in the new stud, you're ready to rock again. Oh....USE A TORQUE WRENCH!!!!!! Oh yeah, man you must got some arm to mess that stud up.

channel lock?vice grip?eh? I guess you can get those at a regular Ace Hardware shop? I don't think you can back it out, just one way in/out.

Base9se: 6 point?12 point?

As you two can tell, I'm completely retarded when it comes with tools, and many other things.

haha, im the same way, im always stripping stuff. what part did you strip? did you strip the threads on the inside of the differential? if so than your screwed. you will have to pull out the stud, drill the hole out bigger and the tap some new threads in.

I would be easier and cheaper to swap out the rear cover. If you feel up to taking out the stud and finding a new one go head.

I stripped the outter part of the stud where the bolt bolts onto, not the inside of the diff. It took me like 3 weeks to finally put the diff back on b/c with college and all. I don't want to pull it out again. So how do you pull it out? Just buy one of those thing base9se posted, but the stud doesn't just slide it; it was screwed in. There's a tool that can grap the stub so i can screw it out?

Im kinda confused, so lets try some definitions here, ok.

bolt = a six sided head mated to a threaded shaft

stud = a completely or mostly threaded shaft with no head; may be attached or molded into a piece of equipment

nut = a 6 sided piece with a threaded hole in the middle

bung = a open threaded hole inside a piece of equipment or machinery

now i dont mean to talk down to you, but which of these did you strip again?

well crap.

yeah, you are going to need a new cover then...I know you can get one from a junk yard for pretty cheap, you should be able to use any cover from the same model your car is (vlsd or open).

When i put my J30 in, i had to swap th cover on from my S13 open diff and it worked.

edit: this is where i got confused...

It takes no more than a few fours to pull the diff out and swap the rear cover and put it back in. It should take 2 hour at the max. I think you will be fine of there is 3 bolts still in the back. I personally wouldn't worry about it. If you are paranoid change the cover.

I hope so. I really don't feel like taking out agian because I've been workin on my car since I bought it(about 2 months). SO many problems here and there and I'm not even done yet. I just put on my exhaust and diff...I reallly don't feel like taking them out again because I don't have the right tools so everything takes forever.I will eventually do it if I can't find a way to take it out. damn it
