i'm sorta confused

sorry to rehash the subject and i don't mean to hijack Boss05's thread, but if i want to have brighter lights at night, do i need to go up or down in wattage? i'm confused. i like the stock factory color of the lights, i just want them brighter but at the same time, i don't want to mess up the light housing by causing too much heat. any suggestions?
