let me paint you a picture. i'm bringing a friend of mine back to his house after some wendys, due to some moron who does not know that i had the right of way, i had to floor it to avoid being hit. i was in first gear and it felt like i was in a civic for a min. i damn near got hit b/c my power was suddenly lost. i tried it again later, and nuthin, absolutely no power band it just slowly crept up to speed but never really had any push. i have no idea what happened, she still drives normal unless i put it to the floor. for some reason my normal power increase, around 3500 rpm-7000, is gone. please let me know what you think it is. this really sucks:confused:

Umm...yeah thats not good man. I can tell ya one thing though, you'd know if you totally blew your engine. I wonder...you MIGHT could have caused the timing to skip a little bit (unlikely) and now it's off enough to kill your power. I dunno, I'm probably just making stuff up at this point

how about giving your MAF and throttle body a cleaning with some aerosol carb cleaner. i wouldn't really know....couldn't hurt though.

not 100% clear on your problem.

Are you saying the car bogs & doesnt want to run when you floor it and ONLY when you floor it?

if so.. I would suspect that it is either the MAF or a fuel problem.. I.e. Worn injectors/ Fuel pump not putting out enough fuel.

...and if it's bogging down all over the place, you might have bigger problems... smell your dipstick for gas and check your coolant for oil, etc etc.... If its not the easier stuff it could be rings or headgasket? Then again it could always be just a loose hose someplace or whatever, so dont panic just yet.

Use brake cleaner... carb cleaner will leave deposits.

well ****, it did it again. i guess it's not the MAF. what else could be causing the problem. sometimes it's slow sometimes it's fast, what can i do.

Run a compression/leak test. Make sure your timing is correct (A 240SX will run slower than a geo metro if the timing is retarded too much...trust me I know--and testing the timing would mean investing in a timing gun:pface). Umm...I know theres something else, but I just woke up and my mind has fully restarted;)...

perhaps your intake butterfly isn't opening up all the way due to a vacuum leak or some other oddity.....

Ahhh this is why i love my 1980 Datsun.....no computers to crap out on me.

But as for your problem check your fuel injectors. My fiance's car was doing the same thing you said your is. We changed the fuel injectors and all is well now.

And if you need injectors, ive got a set i could sell ya cheap

I would check your timing. I drove a vtech 4th gen lude and it was dirt slow with the incorrect timing specs. After fixing that, boy did it pull.

but it doesn't happen all the time. i think if it were a timing problem it would be consistantly slow. i just got back from driving and it was fine, but i'm sure it will act up again soon. idk f-it

this is funny because my car is having the exact same problem. sometimes it runs good, sometimes its slow as hell. when mine is running slow, it sounds as if the engine is having trouble breathing and when letting go of the gas pedal, takes longer for the rpms to go down than usual. i had this problem with an old trans am and ended up being a clogged dirty cat. might wanna check on that.
