Here's the deal...I first got my car running and it idled fine and had a vac signal of about 17. I then decided to change my intercooler piping around and after that it only got about 10 lbs of vac. Figured the piping was a little loose somewhere. well i took it to have a down pipe made and have then weld bungs for my bov. when i picked up the car from them it was idleing around 1000 (a little surgy) but vac was still at 10 psi. i limped it home and made a leak tester and found some leaks in my piping. But now it just wont idle. It seems like it has gotten progressively worse. I can hold the throttle down and let it idle at 1000 and it sounds ok. if i let it go below that to like 700 it will be real shaky and kinda stumbles. and if i let my foot off completely it will just die. My compression is at 180 on all cyl. distributor is at post 1 when at TDC. Please help...any ideas!!!

There's a little metal tube that peeks out from under the intake runners, beside the throttlebody. Connected to that tube should be a pretty good size rubber vacuum hose (like 3/8 I.D. or slightly smaller), which runs to your intercooler pipe (probably near the throttlebody, but some people run them to the turbo intake pipe).

This metal tube under the manifold leads to the AACV (controls your idle). Remove the rubber hose and spray throttlebody cleaner down that tube (key off, engine off). Spray so much down it that you get bored.

Then, re-connect the vacuum hose, start the car and let it clear it's throat. It'll chug and smoke like crazy for a few seconds, but keep the revs up around 2,000rpm and it'll clear right out.

Then, let us know how your idle is after that.

By the way, you never did say if your vacuum returned to normal after repairing the leaks.

I cleaned out the IACV via carb cleaner though the tube about 2 months ago because my idle was a little screwey for the first 20 sec of a cold start (n/a). I will try it again tho just to keep eliminating things...and it is connected to my cold pipe right now. And my vac still isnt good. about 10psi when i hold the throttle at 1000. thanks for the quick reply. Keep em commin.

I'd wager that when you get the idle issue straightened out, you'll also recover the vacuum. Remember, you're opening the throttle plate, so there won't be full vacuum at 1,000rpm. Now if the idle was set to 1,000rpm with the throttle shut, you'd see full vacuum.

ya its just a matter of figuring that out haha. I think there is still a leak somewhere amongst the vac line around the intake mani. I think i can hear somehting. Its gonna be hell to find and figure out tho. Might need a smoke leak tester or somethin so i can find it. but would it be that bad that it would keep it from idling completely?

Yes it will mess up your idle. I had a vacuum line I forgot to plug and idle would go up and down and it ran rough as well. You should be more like -.20 vacuum.
