I'm 28, I think I will be the oldest person to appear in court for a MIP ticket ever.

sigh.
Are you planning to fight it in court?

Why didn't you take care of the ticket back when you were a kid?

go to court and ask the judge, " are you really going to fine me for something nine years ago that should've been brought up when it happened?"

my guess is that it'd get thrown out anyways

I thought that 7 years to the day is supposed to be the limit of legal action for those types of "crime".

That's possible, but it is possible that he has had a warrant for much longer then he realizes. They could have just recently figured out where to send the notification.

Once a warrant is issued they have much longer.

I have 40 days to turn myself in

I didn't live in Utah in 2001-2008 but I did in 97-2000 and in 08/09.

Sucks to be me.
So let me get this straight...

...are you saying that Utah is a state?

Statue of limitation applies to how long they have to catch you, not how long they have to enforce their verdict, IIRC

So like, if he had never gotten a citation, and they found proof of him drinking 9 years ago they could not do anything if the limit is 7 years... but they didn't wait this whole time before citing him for the crime, the warrant is for him never responding to this citation... I doubt there is a time limit on that.

Not sure that anyone remembers or cares but, the other "I got a ticket" thread reminded me to update this.

I did go to court, the judge was not a very happy person. He asked me why I didn't do the things I was sentenced to(pay $1100 fine and attend a 6 week rehab course). I replied that I couldn't remember because it was so long ago. He agreed that ten years ago might be a little hard to remember.

He cut the fine down to $600 and nixed the rehab course. I guess I'm glad it all taken care of. Just remember kiddies that you can't escape your past, especially when the city of Clinton, Utah has a nice new court house that needs to be paid for.
