I have an '84 turbo Z that the fuel pump just went out on. How does one remove the original pump and can a Q45 pump be interchanged for the Z pump? Is there any fabricating of the mount needed or otherwise? The reason for the substitution is that someone offered the Q pump for free and said that they're interchangeable........ any thoughts/ answers on this?

Thanks,

Insecure on this one...

No idea if they are interchangeable. Could check Nissan to see if they have the same part number.

As for removing the fuel pump, there are two ways. The first is to drop the tank, since there is only an access door for the fuel level sending unit. The second is to cut a hole in the floor over the pump, and fabricate an access panel for that. Personally, I would go with the first option since cutting holes in a perfectly good floor is blasphemy. But I've seen a small number of people make the hole without the universe collapsing in on itself. Yet.

I thank you for the help. That pretty much answered my questions. I'll call Nissan in the AM

pretty much all in tank pumps are the same, the flwo rate varies btut he Q pump is larger than the Z31 pump, yes it'll work, I don't expect nissan to tell you that it will, the only real difference will be the electrical connector, also walbro 255's are a popular choice for 99% of all cars with in tank pumps
