I am moving at the end of this week. I am told by the U-Haul people that if I want to tow my car, I would have to take out my driveshaft. Huh? Can I do this? Is this a good idea? Is it easy to do? HELP!!!!

You tow a rear wheel drive car by picking up the rear end.(Car is facing backwards) Front wheel drive by picking up the nose end. (Car is facing forward)

Pick it up front end put it in neutral. and move on. I towed it like that for two hours worth of driving from one end of chicago to the other nothing went wrong.

you are supposed to have the drive shaft off. if you dont the transmission is still turning inside and you risk grinding gears when u go over big bumps because the shifter inside will rattle around.

disconnecting the driveshaft is so easy... its 4-8 bolts depending on how you do it, so there no reason not to. jack the car up and 5-10 min and your done. when its off, your insured that nothing will happen to the transmission

U-Haul rents trailers you can tow your car on.

From what I remember, cars should not be towed with their drivewheels down. I can't remember the reasoning behind it, but it is supposed to damage your transmission. If you have your car's manual, you will see that it does not recommend towing with your drivewheels on the ground. I would just put it on a trailer.
