Ok, are you putting a KA rear case/internals onto an RB20 front case/bell housing or vice versa?

How strong is the SR trans? I wonder if those internals would be a good upgrade for the 20 guys...

Good luck on the swap!

SUCCESS!!!!!!

ITS EASY AS PIE ALSO AND ALL YOU NEED IS A GASKET AND SEALANT. I'LL HOPEFULLY TAKE PICS BEFORE WE INSTALL IT IN MY FRIENDS CAR. I'LL BE DOING A FEW OF THESE HERE SOON AND I ACTUALLY WANT TO DO A RB/SR transmission MOD SO I CAN USE THE OS GEIKEN STRAIGHT CUT GEARS.

IF YOU CAN GET ME A SR 6-SPD FOR CHEAP I'LL DO IT.... I NEED TO GET ONE FIRST. IF YOU HAVE ONE AND WANT ME TO DO IT FOR YOU JUST SEND ME THE transmission AND I'LL GLADLY SOURCE A RB20 FRONT CASE AND SWAP IT FOR YOU.

ACTUALLY IF YOU CAN GET ME PICS OF THE SR transmission I CAN TELL YOU IF ITS POSSIBLE WITHOUT MUCH MODIFICATIONS.

I wouldn't waste my time with a sr20 6speed. They are known to be much weaker than the 5 speed.

I've seen 5 speeds take up to 550whp. I know of one that broke at that power level on the dyno. It was weird cause i never seen a transmission break on the dyno. It did have 24 passes on it though.

Now someone's just gotta stick an RB25 front case on a Z32 transmission and see what happens. :D Great work, dude. You're an absolutely priceless rescource to the Nissan forums. You're the only guy I don't mind when you type in all caps.

Mack, are you going to have a stand at IAS?

The only problem is the 300zx transmission uses an extended linkage shifter system.... it'll put the shifter in the ashtray area. Ireally want to get my hands on a s15 sr transmission.... I'll do six speed rb20's and ka's

only if you swap a rb20det bellhousing/front case on to the rear section of the ka transmission.

Can anyone get a S15 SR20DEt 6spd transmission? I would like to purchase one to start project 2..... 6spd rb20 with out a transfer case (dead weight) for under $1k.

One could try attempting to fit a very simple stenograph-type shift linkage into it. You could even use this method to shorten the throw.

THE THING IS YOU NEED TO MEASURE FROM THE CENTER OF THE RB25 SHIFTER TO FRONT OF THE BELLHOUSING, AND DO THE SAME WITH THE 300ZX transmission AND SEE HOW FAR OF A DIFFERENCE IT IS. IF ITS ONLY ABOUT AN INCH IT MIGHT BE SMART TO DO IF YOU AREN'T USING A MOUNT SYSTEM BECAUSE IT'LL PUT THE SHIFTER IN THE STOCK LOCATION.

You haven't installed this yet, have you? If this works, then my tape measure must be wrong (or maybe it was operator error on my part). If you used the RB bellhousing with the KA rear case, then by my measurements, your shifter will be 2" farther back than the center of the hole. That will take it right to the edge of the hole, and you will be forced to do some cutting if you intend to use 2nd, 4th, and reverse.

If you are using custom mounts that move the engine back 1/2" or so, your shifter won't even be in the hole at all.

I also do not expect your transmission mounts to line up or your driveshaft to fit. Sorry to be all doom and gloom, but I don't think this will work.

Let me know if this isn't true, so I can pitch my tape measure in the trash.

I MEASURE THE FRONT CASES OF BOTH AND THEY WERE THE SAME LENGTH AND IIRC THE REAR CASES WERE 1/2" LONGER..... ONCE ITS INSTALLED IN JOES CAR WE'LL KNOW FOR SURE.

OK OK i am highly interested in the swap.

I have an rb20det with automatic RB transmission. I want a 5 speed badly. So is it possible to swap the automatic bell housing with a KA 5 speed transmission and bolt it right up?? I really need to know if this will work...

Thanks

Tony

thats might not work because the auto front cases are completely different.... if I had a blown auto transmission (ka, sr, rb) to play with I would try.
