Hi,

My fuel pump was humming for a while and it eventually went out. I bought a new (junkyard) a fuel pump and also a fuel control unit from Ebay with DOA guarantee. I exchanged the fuel pump but now I'm not getting power to get it running. I tried both fuel control pumps and seems as though no power it coming to them to get the fuel pump going.I gave the fuel pump direct power through some wires and was able to start the car.Anything else I'm missing here? Are there any relays or fuses which could lead to this??Need help ASAP guys, I've been w/out a car for about 2 weeks now and I miss my Q45.

Thanks guys.

There is a fuel pump fuse under the dash. Check it with a meter, to see if 12 VDC is going through it.

Also check to see if you are getting 12 VDC to the controller. The output to the pump should be variable voltage, but 12 VDC at start-up.

Usually, when I have these problems, it is because I forgot to re-set the fuse, or re-connect a wiring harness.

There are some great threads on fuel pum controller and fuel pump in here and the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum.

DOA = Dead On Arrival (!!!?), so I don't get it.

Using a used fuel pump is asking for someone else's problem. It is cheap enough from Joe to avoid the extra labor and problems you will encounter sooner with a used one. Did you inspect the tank? Change the fuel pump booty sock? The fuel filter?

Do you have a FSM? Must understand how the power is routed and the voltage is switched.

thanks for your replies. But I'm still in the dark hole here.Does anything need to be reset after replacing fuel pump and Fuel controller? (disconnect battery and reconnect or something for the ECU to reprogram???)All fuses under the hood are okay when checked, (I had the key to ignition and tested all fuses and the little light bulb would come on) so I know they're all good. How about the connector to the FCU?? anything might be burned or melted there or what??

I need alot of help in great details please.

THANKS

I was told [and I could be remembering what I was told incorrently] that there is a relay somewhere around the back on the sides of the trunk above the rear wheels that can cause this problem. I wish I knew more so I could elaborate.

You reinstall it after installing the pump.
