I'm about to buy a 98 Max to be my daily driver to keep the miles low on my Infiniti. But I want to get some 2nd opinions b4 doing so. The Max is a 98 5-speed fully loaded with 200k miles. The owner drove it from VA to Ohio very often and kept the car up very well. It has a new clutch & flywheel. He's selling it cause he just purchased a new Accord. He's selling it 2 me for $1500...is there anything that I need to look out for/check/or be concerned about. I will be using the car for my daily driver to drive from southern VA to northern VA 2-3 times a week. Would this b a good buy or should I look for something else?

Well it sounds like its in good shape as long as he changed the oil regularly then sounds like a great deal to me. Unless he has already done it i would just get a tune up and change the oil. One more thing its up to you but you might think about switching to synthetic oil, typically its not recomended on high mileage engines but i put it in my 95 maxima when it had about 185k miles and its not burning it. Well thats not to say yours wont its just something to think about especially since youll be driving that far a lot.

I'd say for $1500 jump on that! Even if there are issues it's still a lot of car for that much money.

At 200k it's probably worth it to change and/or flush all fluids.

What to expect depends on how religiously the car has been maintained.Could be time for new shocksTransmission is getting old (though could very well still have a lot of life left in it if it's been cared for)CV joints may need replacing (if the current owner maintained the car well, they may already be done)

Aside from that, most concerns I'd be "expecting" at that milage are minor: electronics, etc.

That sounds more like the CV Joint to me. Not too bad of a deal, if you like the looks of it, have at it. For that price, you can surely unload it if you need to on some needy college kids.

Just have your mechanic pop the whole CV axle out and replace it with a remanufactured one.

Do a search and you'll see why.

Sounds like a fair deal, man.

I would need one of that after I lost mine
