Before we start, I know this isn't CA18 related, but the other forums suck and I value everyone's insight here.

Ok, so here's the deal: I have a set of gigantic brakes for my S13. I just got all the stuff that is needed to make them fit (finally) and its going to totally rule everyone's face BUT I have one problem. What to do about the rear brakes?

Now normally, I would just throw some Z32 TT rear brakes on there, but these fronts are SO big that I think they would still be out of proportion. We are talking Stillen AP racing big brake kit for the 300Z twin turbo.

So you guys think the Z32 TT rears will be up to the task? or should I stop being a puss and order some Wilwood dynalites for the rear? I want this car to stop so hard your brain gets mashed into the front of your skull. I want the sweat to literally fly off my face and stick to the windshield when I mash the brakes.

Here are some test fit pictures for an idea,

Caliper mounted up w/o rotor (rotor wouldn't fit w/o removing the dust shield, and I wasn't ready to put them on at the time):

Stock rotor over the new rotor:

They are 330mmx36mm rotors, just to give you an idea.

Just trying to get the right plan of action. In case you guys haven't noticed, I have been in full parts-buying mode.

Oh, and I'm not shy about converting to a hydraulic hand brake. I will be converting to a 300Z TT master cylinder.

So if it was your car, and money didn't really matter (within reason), what would you do?

I would rock Z32 rears, but I'm cheap and can't justify a big brake kit for the rear. If you CAN justify that then go for it.

Do you have rear disc right now? If you do, f*** upgrading rear brakes. They pretty much do f*** all for braking, unless your running Lemans this year?

Get an adjustable proportioning valve and run whatever you want on the rear.

Thats so cute.

Seriously though, if it was your car and you had the money to do it, what would you do? I will accept other suggestions too.

I had a proportioning valve going in anyway, so it will definitely have one, I was just concerned with how to get the best stopping ability possible.

This thing needs to stop from 60 in less than 100 feet.

The best stopping would be the wilwood kit you mentioned, but I'm sure the fronts you have with the Z32 rears would get you stopped under 100ft. Hell leave the stock rears and get the right pads for the front and you should stop under 100

Throw on Z32 TT rear calipers, slotted rotors, good pads. Tilton pedal set (with cylinders) and a hydraulic handbrake. AP racing brake fluid, for higher temp range. Also, I would get some brake ducts for a Z32, or custom fabbed, with air pipe leading to vents in bumper. Steel braided lines are a must for response and feel.

At least, thats whats going in my car

^ Yeah, that sounds like a reasonable idea. Don't know if I have the financial fortitude to be throwing in Tilton pedal sets though.

Oh so your competing in Lemans this year?? Who needs a brake setup like that on a street car?

Not Le Mans, time attack.

I will street it too, because I'm just that much of a technophile.

Exactly, who doesn't want a street car with brakes that could stop a speeding freight car? I don't know if you guys have noticed, but every freaking car these days is coming factory fresh with big red brembos and 13" rotors. I just don't want to be left behind. I also don't need to rear end someone in their KIA Rio because it stops from the factory in 108ft from 60, and my little s13 was rated at an abysmal 144ft.

Are you serious about that 144? That's just pathetic. It's not like there is a lot of car to stop.

Yep, that's what the 1989 non abs 240sx hatch stops from 60 in. So says my original window sticker and information. It really is just abysmal.

^That is pretty cool, with the exception of losing your e-brake. However, his idea for the Wilwood spot brake is pretty cool.

If you do that for the rear (btw, requires 5 lug on rear, if you aren't already), then the only thing holding you back on braking is your tires.

Five lug is for non-OG s-chassis owners. I'm gonna be staying four lug, but I have the capacity to re-drill brake rotors at home so no biggie.

Thanks for the tip Buddy, I'm going to definitely keep that in mind! I'll bet I can pick up the rears for next to nothing!
