So today was a nice day. I got my bonus check at work, and went and picked up some Lexol and other goodies to make my Q sparkle and shine. Grabbed a new air filter, and had an appointment next week to fix the AC.

In the back of my mind I knew I had one item to fix but couldn't figure out what it was. As Q45Tech would say, the idiot driver sort of gets used to the funny sound and their brain tells them its normal...

Well, the hum that I was used to hearing for weeks during 60-90mph acceleration turned out to be a fuel pump. It died, and I was left in a halfass (but fortunately busy) part of town at a gas station.

Called the tow truck, and there were three of us. Myself (215lbs) my friend (350lbs) and his stepkid (220lbs), and we all crammed into the front seat of the tow truck. At 50mph my head was out the window (the only way I could make space for myself). When the tow truck crossed the train tracks, I felt it as my head went *thunk* on the door. Ouch.

So basically due to my poor maintenance and stupidity, I ended up stranded in the ghetto with two other fat guys, while snuggling next to a tow operator.

Much to my surprise, when my 92 Q was dropped off at my mechanic's shop, they were still there working.

So I have learned... to fix **** while its breaking, not after it breaks! I could have saved myself from a lost evening at home and a $46 tow fee.

I can just see the look on your face now when your head hit that tow truck door frame! Just hope that the controller isn't toast!

Is there a sign that the controller went poo? I was able to start the car and get it to run for a few seconds, until it died. And if I let it sit a few minutes, it would run a little bit longer. Pumping the gas sometimes helped...

Thx!-Jesda

Quit that now unless you want to fry the controller. Do a search on controller, and you will learn why and how expensive it can be.

The controller connector will look like it's overheated. You can also pull the cover and looked for signs of overheating on the board.

The Infiniti dealer and NAPA quote the same ($306) price for the fuel pump. Is there a difference between the two?

Use only genuine Infiniti (Nissan) part. Do the search and research controller and fuel pump.

It turned out NAPA had to order it from Seattle anyway. I drove to Wendle Infiniti and picked one with an O-Ring for $315.

According to the guy at the parts counter, a lot of folks garage their Qs in the winter and water condensation damages the electronic fuel pumps.

Can anyone confirm that?

Thx!-JEsda
