Ok OK, first of all, I reccomend you do some other things before you even think about turboing ANYTHING. You are goning to need some brakes... you know, to stop your car. Also I would upgrade the suspension.. to handle to the power. If anything, get a rebuild or check on that engine. 175K is ALOT of milage. Personally, I don't think 2g's will be suffice for a turbo build. There are ALOT of hidden cost to a turbo setup. You want to have an all around car. Your probably going to hear this in the next few replies to this thread. Take it seriously, adding this type of power is serious ****. I mean if you saying, "send prayers to my engine". That is not a good sign. Anyway, I say do the small **** first. Then go with the power goodies. Good luck on whatever you do. Thanks.

Geo is right, i've had my 240 for close to 2 years, and am not done with suspension/brake mods yet. You really should do those first. 300zx brakes (front at least, rears too if you are up to it) then springs/strut combo or coilovers and swaybars. get used to the car after doing all that, and then start planning out a turbo kit. Or, if you don't want to listen to us at all, http://www.boostdesigns.com has a number of good turbo kits for ~2000 bones.

first of all I already have 300zx brakes. And i have 2000$ so far....who says the money isn't still coming? im a highschool with no bills...no rent...money is not an issue with a job, which i have. and also with the boostdesign.com kits. i have looked into it and the stage 1 doesnt have anything to handle the fuel situation. everyone knows if u look around u can get better deals if u peice it out. yes i kno 175k is alot. i dont want to rebuild my motor becuz wuts the point. i rather buy a backup motor. then later on rebuild that one. i also said i have a friend who knows all about turbo. so that doesnt mean im going at this myself. ive done my research so im not jus someone who goes at this with no knowlegde. when i do turbo this motor i wont be the only one who has this much miles with boost am i right. my first goal is about 250hp. dont tell me this isnt reachable

tough crowd

piece together a kit. Im sure you can with 2k. Don't listen to what everyone here says and just go for it. If u wanna turbo, turbo that motor. You'll be happy in the end with the results. Dont be afraid to ask if you have any questions

Well the stage one DOES have an FMU.. But thats risky as ****. We are only adivsing these points becasue we seen maybe screw ups. MANY screwups of people rushing in to this hefty project, wanting to just have a turbo. But whatever, I would atleast upgrade the suspension before you go through with this. As you said, your still in highschool and have PLENTY of time to turbocharge the 240sx. Thats the reason why I stated you should upgrade the little things first. Anyway, good luck. GODSPEED.

I think the demeanor of your post threw everyone off for a second...

Anyway, $2000 is enough for a 250 hp turbo setup. Mine is actually costing $1300 or so, and that's with a new wideband, so $2000 should be enough. But yeah, don't jump into stuff without a helpful hand, or a decent amount of experience(or a whole lot of book knowledge). Spend your money wisely, because it gets spent fast. Good luck.

And try to speak a bit clearer if possible...

I bought most of my parts when I was 17. FMU is fine for a low boost setup. Ebay is your friend. That is where I got almost all of my hardware. Like crzycav86 said, spend your money wisely. Don't end up with a turbocharger and a manifold that don't go together or something similar. Just do a lot of reading. Good luck.

Oh yeah.. and 175 psi compression is pretty good, I guess. It's supposed to be 180.

Well good luck and hopefully you have a ride to school if things don't work out properly. Plan ahead because your car will see some down time. Other than that good luck.

I'm planning on using a hacked maf. I haven't exactly finished the project yet, but that's a pretty good approximation thus far. I'm using a bunch of cheaper parts(jgs manifold, sr injectors, z31 turbo, starion fmic) One thing to note is that I do all of my own fabrication(including flanges)... So it doesn't get too expensive. But we'll see the grand total when it's done.

That statement right there makes you cool with me.I feel the same way; I know this stuff in theory, but Ive never touched a turbo before.Keep your enthusiasm, cause I sure theres some head-scratching in your future. Just take your time and search/ask questions before you do something. Ive learned everything I know from reading on this site...

I put my kit together myself:

My Stage 1 - up to 6 PSI - $1217.00

SSAuto Tube Manifold - eBay - $1753" Downpipe - JCWhintey - $45Cartech FMU - cartech.net - $200Intercooler Pipes - JC Whitney - $654' Steel Braided Lines - Paragon Performance - $44 Couplers / T-Bolt Clamps - Areoquip - $85T3/T25 300ZX Turbo - eBay - $125Precision Intercooler - eBay - $299GReddy Type S BOV - Racing Zone - $179

My Stage 2 - up to 10 PSI - $490

Z32 MAF - xatracing.com - $150SAFC I - eBay - $90S15 480cc Injectors - eBay/Forum - $250

From everything I have read you are good to about 10 PSI beyond that you will need some way to manage you igni timing. (i.e. MSD BTC, eManage, Stand alone, JWT ECU, etc......)

thats about what mine cost me. if you search around for good deals and do a lot of the work yourself you can easily do a basic setup for under $2000.
