I had a friend rebuild a 240 for me because I could no longer afford my car payment. It's done now and he moved away. Problem #1...there is some kind of fluid leaking near the clutch pedal. I don't know what it is. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be and what needs to be done to fix it. Problem #2 the light under the drivers side is on and will not turn off. It has never done this before. It came on when I turned on the lights and it never went off. Also when I was driving the light that tells you your door is open was on and would not go off even though all the doors were closed. Please help. By the way...I have to drive this car 6 hours in less than 2 weeks. If it makes it I can get all the work I need done on it for very cheap. Will it make it there with whatever problems it is having?

Thanks!

Chickie

1 - The fluid leaking near the clutch pedal is either coming from the clutch fluid master cylinder or brake master cylinder. Check up under the dash where the pedal meets the firewall. Also check the same place on the opposite side of the firewall. Im willing to bet it's from the clutch master cylinder, but also check the brake master cylinder too.

2 - My friend's 240 was like this too...every time he hit a bump the light under the dash would come on. I think that means the wire is probably grounding out somewhere (someone correct me if Im wrong, Im not into electrical stuff). Quick fix - I think without that fuse the radio won't work either, so you could pull the bulb out so it doesn't bug you.

It will make it there, you just may not have a clutch (or brakes) by the time you get there if the leak is bad enough. Do either of the pedals feel different, or when you change gears do they grind at all?

By the way...welcome to NICO, we need more girls around here

1st gear is getting a little difficult to downshift to but other than that it is driving great. The breaks are fine. I think it's the clutch. If I keep an eye on the fluid levels on the trip and fill it if I need to do you think it will be OK or do I need to get this fixed before I go. I will be driving alone and at night and would hate to break down half way. If I do fix it, how much do you think it would cost. I'm pretty low on fundage right now.

If it is getting hard to shift then check your clutch fluids. If the fluids are fine then that hard to shift problem might be something different. At the end of the day I think you will be ok with the 6 hour trip. Just keep in mind to drive slow, check everything often and it should make it.

i have seen master and slave cylinders fail very quickly, i would get it replaced asap.

as for the door light, your drivers door probobly doesnt close all the way and the button that tells when the door is closed probobly isnt getting pressed, for a quick fix you can tape a piece of cardboard to the part of the door that hits the switch so it keeps it depressed when closed.

If it's your clutch and you are driveing 6 hours on the highway don't be too concearned you won't be doing much shifting so you won't leak much. That used to happen on my old corolla. Prolly the clutch master cyclinder. As for the door, might be the sensor that checks if your door is open might be stuck. That might be turniing on the light on your dash and underneath. And post some pics of you and your ride. Don't see many chicks with 240's, might be interesting. :-P

Wow...Ive gone days without responses to topics and the girl gets hers answered in less than a hour... I get it now...

Anyway i really have nothing to add cause these guys basically summed it up...although i wouldnt condone a 6 hr trip with a leaking clutch cylinder but maybe thats just me. Check the fluids like 1991s13 said to see if thats what it is.

The door thing happens with my car too. I used to just adjust the button where the door closed but eventually just turned the dome light completely off as the adjustment usually didnt last long...no clue why...

for the light, pull the fuse...or I'm guessing the lamp on the "ceiling" can be set to off all the time instead of light w/door open, or light on. Although I think that only works for that particular light, you may want to see if it does so for the other as well.

when my slave cylinder was busted, it would cause the pedal to stay down at times. When i drove to on the freeway, it would happen a lot more after i got off the freeway.
