February 29th 2008 is a milestone for my other car. This day marks the 24th anniversary of ownership bliss since I bought my first brand new car (second car I owned). In the 24 years of owing this car I have had 6 other vehicles come and go and three others, including the coupe, I presently have. If you care to read on, here are a few other factoids relating to my Camino:The Camino is nearly fully loaded with the factory available options. The window sticker was $12,400.00, I paid $10,800.00. I was working as an electrician making a whopping $8 an hour just 4 years out of high school. Since buying the car in 1984, I have lived in three homes, have had three different employers, got married, had 2 kids; it was the first car my 17year old boy drove (15 year old boy is next)The first “major” part replacement I did was the starter, at 90,000 miles!I replaced the original alternator at 160,000 miles! It still has the original 305 4bbl engine…..never even rebuilt (yet), starts every time I turn the key.It has had one repaint with same factory colors, one transmission rebuild, a/c replaced (just two years ago). New door seals and door hinge pins are sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. How about this……it has NEVER been wrecked!Besides myself, only my wife, brother, dad and son have ever driven the car. (not including incidental drivers like mechanics) I have driven the car in 8 different states. The past 19 years it has mostly been garage kept. Two years ago was another milestone, I had the car half my life!! It also turned 200,000 miles that year. In 2005 I got real lucky when hurricane Katrina hit (just) 20 miles to the east of my home. We evacuated but the Camino stayed in the garage. It is certainly not in perfect condition but not bad for 24 years. When people tell me how surprised they are at how well this non-restored car looks, I always credit it to the purchase date, Feb 29, therefore it only ages every 4 years….so this year my 24 year old car is only 6.

As much as I love my Coupe, I doubt seriously I'll own it in 24 years (2032). It probably won't even last that long and there is a pretty good chance I will not still be around myself either.

That is one fine camino! I hope I can say the same about my coupe in 24 years!
