Man I love Bose, its sooo amazing, I think that life is better with a bose stereo in my car....FALSE .

Its the most plain white bread sounding speakers you can ask for. Anybody that thinks otherwise I feel sorry for . Not to mention half of them cut in and out in my car, and doesnt even play cds most of the time, just skips horrendously.

Anyways, i just wanted to see what other people with the 02 maxima are doing about this? Ive heard that the bose setup is annoying to take out and that you have to have a professional do it to put in an aftermarket headunit and speakers...anyways, any insite would be appreciated

I had a bose in my 97' maxima se and i replaced the head unit without any major problems. The only thing that you have to do is splice about 12 wires together because they dont make a wiring harness for the bose system. All my speakers worked fine for the short period of time I had them, until I got new ones all around. Hope this helped.

Yes they do. I have one in my 95 max and as for the speakers there the wires can be modified at the speakers to accept after market speakers. Try crutchfield.com for more information.

replace the headunit and it sounds 11092482104 times better. The headunit is made by clarion, and it completely BLOSE (pun intended). I'm on my 3rd headunit (had it replaced twice under warranty) but I'm hoping if it breaks again that I'll be able to go aftermarket...they have pretty much a 90% 'success' rate of cutting out on the left side when playing CDs and many people have their subwoofer cut out on them as well...

I have had two 92 Maximas with Bose and both of them conked out in some way. The first one lost the HU and the second one blew 3 of the four amps, plus the rear speakers were toast.

I also have a 2001 Infiniti QX4 with Bose and the in-dash 6 disk changer broke, costing a little over $200 to fix. Screw that, I bought a 30GB ipod and an adapter instead.

As for my Maxima, the only thing left Bose are the speaker covers (to look stock) and the rear brackets. Some of the wiring is left, but not being used. I have run quality speaker wire from the trunk (amp) to the front doors.

Basically, my opinion of Bose is stay away from it and move to aftermarket as soon as you can afford to.

I have it and it's not that bad IMO. I've heard of lots of the 5.5 gen guys having issues, but I haven't had any at all.

I'd like to go aftermartket, but don't want to drop the cash on audio right now.

Even that is pushing it. I honestly don't like the mid-heavy sound made by the wave.

I have to say, I looked at a lot of speaker systems for my computer and Bose is by far the best sounding. So It may be worth something!

No.... I'm talking to the other guys that reside in my head!!! It is it's own little community! Kinda like "the forum within the forum".

I was correcting my statement. Bose actually makes a decent system for the computer.

No Highs No Lows Must Be BOSE! God this stuff is awful. I pulled my last Bose equipped car's stereo but came to miss the steering wheel controls and such. I loved having a 12W7 and Focal Components in my Acura but there is a tradeoff. I used a Prowedge and it took up most of my trunk (2nd gen TL) My M45 system makes me sad. I am thinking of using the JL Audio Clean Sweep system to integrate the OEM. I personally think if most customers saw one bose bass driver it its paper finished glory they might rethink their Bose=Good Sound equation. If only they would apply high quality speaker drivers and amplification. Active speakers have the potential to be great if executed with a smidgen of parts quality. They have a great advertising dept though.Cheers,Mark

Looks to be a Spanish manufacturer that is "in the market". I'll stick with my JL Audio and MB Quarts.

Bump....

Anyone know why my Bose player skips? Ive got an 02 I35 and it plays fine up until about 20 minutes after I start the car - then it skips like crazy and sometimes wont even play.

Any thoughts? (Ive tried a cleaning CD several times w/ no success)

An almost YEAR old bump...nice.

As for the CD player...trust me...just take the change and get a aftermarket...you'll be MUCH happier.

Dude, you will be so blown away when you put an aftermarket head unit in your car, replacing the Bose hu is an absolute must for anyone who appreciates good sounding car stereos. The bose speakers are decent. The conversion is not hard. Go through Crutchfield and they will give you everything you need (harness, dash kit, etc.). You will also get a nice storage area beneath your new better sounding hu. My 2001 is a little short on storage, like for my pain-in-the-butt wallet, so it was a nice bonus. Everything sounds cleaner and better with a new hu. You can get some very nice units now for around $300 or less and plug your ipod into to them and have your whole library at your fingertips! If you buy one that has an ipod cable (instead of only an aux input), it works right through the hu with the ipod hidden away in your glove box or center console. For me it was a no brainer. I would look at Pioneer or Alpine. You won't regret it. Although, the gain you will get from the subwoofer will probably get you another project--sound deadening the shelf under the back window.

Hold your horses guys.

I blame the Clarion, not Bose.

Their speakers are some of the best out there. They don't need high wattage because they run on nearly no impedence.

I think the Wave radio sounds like dog ****, but their 3-2-1 systems and their true surround sound are awesome.

The bose system that was in my 96 I30 sounded great until the HU finally died. I bought a 97 HU and had it repaired, but the sound isn't as good.

The original setup would blow away those stupids pushing over 1000 watts with 10s. They were all sad and mad that my stock system sounded better than theirs.

I certainly wouldn't advise someone who simply wants a hu that works and that sounds good to undertake the project that my car was. I have alot of time and money in mine and I know it is not that important to everyone. However, if you have a hu that doesn't work and a system that doesn't meet your level of satisfaction, I would advise a new aftermarket hu because you will get a working unit that will GREATLY improve the sound quality.I would also challenge anyone to find a factory system that can hold a candle to my aftermarket one. Maybe a factory Alpine system in a Lambo, maybe.

I didnt like the Bose HU at all. I hated how it turned down all the bass when you turned the volume up. When i roll the windows down i cant hear the radio at all.

Althought, i do like the amp that came with mine, plus the speakers, even thought my 6.5 rear deck speaker amp blew up from me being stupid, i think it is a pretty nice system. However i did replace the front with component alpine type X's and put in a JL W6v2 10" and a Kicker 700.5 amp. Thanks to the help of audtatious.

If anyone has a rear deck 6.5 sub amp for the maxima I would be happy to make a deal.

I have all the OEM parts from factory Bose upgrade in 2001 Maxima. I replaced everything except the rear door speakers. If you (or anyone else) is interested in the stuff let me know.
