I was going to bomb last night. But my roommate wanted to wait and hear from the leasing office if it was ok if we did it. He says he'll do it today about midday on his lunch break.

I'm listing to Murder by Death right now. If you have never listened to them, get off your a** and do it!

My favorite song of theirs. Sounds like it's straight from a film noir western:

Chorus:I seen three men hangin' from a sycamoretheir bodies were stiff as a two by fourand their heads were tilted down towards the ground

and it ain't been long since they been up therethat their bodies turned cold hangin' in that airand they might have froze before that noose got to them

It's not a sad song...mostly. It's just part of a story. I guess you might have to be in a mood to listen to them. But the song definitely doesn't make me upset or sad or anything. It's just a very pretty song with some noir wordplay

Bart, the more I learn about your tastes, the more I really wanna hang out with you some time. I thought only my tiny clique of avant-garde film miscreants would get giddy at the thought of film noire western. That just gets me all kinds of tingly.

DO WANT!

BTW--a friend of me turned me on to this genre. Still trying to get hold of any of the films, but it looks like an utter good time:

Holy crap! That looks amazing! I'll have to see if anyone has any torrents up on some of those movies.

I love it when someone uses a western as a backdrop and then change it. That's the reason I loved Firefly and Cowboy Bebop so much.

Just take a looksie through the liner notes in the last half of the page to get an idea of the music. I have a megaupload link I can send you for the album, but I'm at work and can't get it (it's posted in some comments on mininova.org). MBD's music seems to pull a lot of influence from Ennio Morricone. Strummed guitars set over a drum set with cellos backing it all up. Usually with a swaying 3/8 metered rhythm.

I automatically love any band that names a song "Until Morale Improves, the Beatings Will Continue".

FTMFW

Another group you might want to check out is Nickle Creek. Their self-titled debut is just f*cking amazing. Alison Krauss discovered and produced them.
