morning all. so i'm sitting on my front porch with my cousin last night, enjoying some icy cold beer. as we are in the midst of a conversation, he pauses, turns around, and asks me what my dog is playing with. i stood up to look and saw my dog sniffing and nipping at something in the grass. we go over, and as we approach, my dog backs off the thing and i see that it's a young possum. after a moment, the thing opens its eye and starts to slowly breathe again. i told my cousin to keep the dog off of it so that he didn't kill it while i went and got a shovel. i came back with the shovel and scooped it up, i then proceed to walk into my back yard to the wood line. when i get there, i steady myself, toss the possum into the air and swing with the shovel. i'm a lefty, swing right handed, so i think i only got a distance of about 15 feet or so, but i laughed. before anyone goes and calls me cruel, it was already bleeding (i didn't know at first, but i saw the blood on the side of the shovel i carried it on after it was gone), and second, they carry disease and get into the garbage. plus they're hideous. so far this summer, my dog is up to 2 birds, 2 possums, and 1 woodchuck. no skunks thankfully.
