yeah, I also had cases where connectors loose, and bad wires. Multimeter is a good tool, lets you know if wires are good through current checks or what not...

yeah wire taping is fun... you have to disconnect the wire at the source and measure current by hooking up the multimeter... reconnect.. then disconnect at other end of wire to see if you are getting the same current... you also have to keep a eye on the diagram to see if the current gets divided...
