i know, i just didn't know that milk snakes did it as well. after work yesterday, i went around my house to pick up after my dog. i saw the snake chilling in the grass. i looked closer at it, it looked like a milk snake, but it wasn't as red as the other one i had caught last fall. it was about 15-18" and just under an inch in girth. i came up from behind it and as i was about to grab it, its head shot around at my hand and i jumped back. then it darted into some high grass but stopped, leaving only it's tail exposed. then it started shaking it's tail like crazy. so i thought, this could very well be a baby rattler that hasn't developed its rattle yet, better not f*** with it. so i poked it with a stick until it took off in the grass. better safe than in the hospital wasting fap time for a stinking shot
