I think it's images. It doesn't appear that you can post any image, at least not that I can tell. But you can do this:

I think signatures are limited to 255 characters. Unfortunately, as it stands the url for your image is included in that limit. So one image could cost you 20-30 characters or whatever. Like I said though, I can't even post an image on the boards.
