hooray for me, i just got word that we were awarded two contracts for the police station in montague, ma. the contracts weren't huge, but work is work and we have been slow lately. but of course that all stems from teh economy and no one having the money to build. anywho, i estimated the job and my bids were just barely low enough to make us the low bidder. i think i may have to celebrate a little tonight .

hell yeah, and our shop is 100% union labor to boot . actually, with all the jokes about lowest bidder and what not, there is no such thing as cheap material being used unless that is what the architect approves. they tell you what to use. the cheap bid comes from underestimating material quantities, cheap or underestimated labor, relationships with the material sales reps, etc. plus all the politics involved with private jobs. btw, i've come to the realization that architects and engineers are all retards, just because you can draw it, doesn't mean it will physically work lol.

My best friend works for an architecture firm in DC. The bidding system keeps the prices fair and honest (for the most part), so I understand all that. Plus it gives less for politicians to skim off the top from.

it's a catch 22 with public jobs. it's good because there are no behind the scenes negotiations on price where the contractor gives the job to a friend of theirs on the sbu level. but then again, if you are too low, you're fvcked. i got the b terminal job at logan international not because i was the low bidder, but because the original low bidder didn't submit all their paperwork and massport basically took their bid and threw it in the trash lol. we were next in line, so free contract, and for the price we wanted.

I wonder where Tom is...

BTW, customers who can't figure a bill out are obnoxious. I'm sorry they can't figure out simple math.

Well, gonna get the mane cut off at 6. I'm a bit relieved and a little bit sad.

not big on quiznos, or any fast food sandwich shop for that matter. i'd rather go to a real deal deli. i decided that it's much too hot for me to be cutting any grass today. i did clean the pool though. i'm going to eat my italian sausage, drink my beer, and relax for the rest of the night.
