I know it's hot, but my car shouldn't be melting

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have heard this is an issue with some G37's, but I haven't seen it reported on the EX forum...

So it is HOT here. 120 in the shade. I can't imagine how hot our cars are getting when they sit in the sun, but suffice it to say, it is HOT ENOUGH TO MELT MY WINDOW TRIM RUBBER!!!
:tantrum:
:argh
I actually had it replaced once under warranty for just barely melting once before...but this is another level. The damage below occurred when I was just using the duster... then I touched it and it was literally like melted chocolate, without the yummy finger licking.

Anyone else? These puppies are over $100 each and both sides have melted. Funny ( ??? ) but the rear door window trim is just fine. Like they are made from two completely different materials.

It's not going to be in the 90's here till September/October.. The LOWS will be in the 90's. :)
My wife had family in Ft Smith and was a Razorback for a year or two. It is nice and quiet there. A different world from Phx. :)

My car was parked in the sun all day yesterday since I was working on a project in the garage. No melting. Although, Tempe only got up to 118...Maybe the 2 degrees made all the difference.

very strange. So yesterday it was only like 113-115 or so. Gently rubbing my finger on the rubber didn't smear it like chocolate, but I squeezed a little between my fingers and it was softer and more pliable than silly-putty.

Time to look on ebay or ?

I always get my parts from here: https://discountinfinitiparts.com/

Looks like a brand new part is $70.00

Update: I saved the $150-$200 and used a $0.50 razor blade and sliced that melted / deformed putty-rubber off. You can't tell it was ever there.

I noticed one warranty invoice from the previous owner on the 2015 I just purchased. it said "bubbling window trim" I couldn't figure out which trim piece they replaced from reading it, but maybe it was the same piece as this?

I wouldn't doubt it is the same IF you live somewhere a bit warm like the desert! I just don't understand how the backs are completely unaffected but the fronts were like wet tar.

Doesn't seem to be the only problem with heat. My dash is starting to crack all over, any one else having this issues?

It happened a lot on the FX35 and after ALOT of people complaining Infiniti finally stepped up and started replacing their dash.
Just hoping this would be the case.

Apparently Infiniti went cheap from 2006 -2009 seems to be where a few model were affected the most. My G35 also fell victim to this. I'm currently looking for a fix or atleast trying to stop it before it gets worse. : :ohno: :bs:

Were are you from?

Well I doubt any of you live in a hotter area than I do (unless some of you are in Death Valley)...and my EX is out in the Phoenix sun at least 8+ hrs a day in a parking lot at work - and the dash in my 2008 (and my paint, other than some minor rock chips) looks like new still... (but I do put up a sun screen for the dash)

I recently moved to Florida from Houston. Looks like our cars didn't like move. Nothing ever happened in the Texas heat but Florida was a different story, maybe it was coincidence but it happened at the same time in the EX and G35; the G35 lives in the garage bearly sees the sun since I work nights. Poor quality of material I'm guessing, older model G don't have this issue.

I found a member GARY01 who had the same issue and got it resolved by the dealer after many calls and complaints. Looks like it won't be easy but seems like the only way.
