I recently blew up my ka motor, and have been contemplating just doing the SR20 swap, or getting crazy and doing a RB swap, but I mostly see people doing the RB25T, instead of the RB26TT. Why is this, I see the motors are available. Is it really that hard to put in? I wouldn't think that dimensionally it would be any bigger(rb25 to 26), is it? I am new here, so please be kind, I know someone will tell me to check the archives, I can never figure out how to make that work, so please, respond with kindness, no reason to be a jerk. I am simply asking!!Thanks!!!

Welcome aboard!

It's actually pretty simple: RB26's are harder to come by, having been used in less cars - They'll also require the RB25 transmission, which means finding 2 components instead of one. Price plays a role as well. Most 240sx's aren't worth the amount you'd spend on an RB26.

If you DO tackle the RB swap, all the resourvces you'll need to make it work are right here. We have several well-done RB-powered 240's on this forum.

bla.

well, the 25 is cheaper to start off. from stories that i've heard, alot of people will simply reduce the twin on the 26 to a single anyways. however, the 26 naturally has a little more power to it. then you have your different trannies 26=AWD and 25=RWD. people will choose the 25 over the 26 simply cuz they can get the transmission and engine all in one package and there's probably less modification needed (price-wise i've seen $1-3+ thousand difference).

google and u might find some more

oh boy.

It's nice that you recognize that we're going to grill you for making your first post, and saying to us how you aren't capable of searching the archives.. but honestly, it doesn't matter. You're gonna need to search if you want to do an RB swap.

See the search button? It's your link to these mysterious archives you're unfamiliar with. Try it.

You're asking rediculous questions.. and they're questions you'll be able to determine the answers to yourself after you do some research. Peace.

ps nice forum name.

its not so much as hard to come by, its more the cost of the swap

a 25 swap can be done easily for 4000$. a 26 your looking at a MINIMUM of $10,000

welcome to NICO nevertheless, p.s. the search button is your friend!

here is a decent older thread. also, the rb20 vs. rb25 vs. rb26 sticky at the top is great as well

I guess my big thing is, I have a well built 300ZX that I'm trying to unload, and for what it's worth, or what I have stuck into it, If it sold, I could pretty much afford to put what ever motor I wanted into it. Even if I buy just an SR, I am still gonna tear it apart and have it built first, because I when I bought the Z, it had already been pushed too hard, and a few months after buying it, I had a little abuse time on it as well (trying to see how fast it really was!!!), I fried at least 2 of the pistons, so now knowing that Nissan Uses cast pistons instead of forged from the factory, means that anything I own will be built before bothering to install it into a car. But afterdriving this Z now, once sold, I will have to replace it with something else, so if I can make it a stunner, and put a well built rb26DETT into that engine bay, with little to no modifications to the body, I have no problems buying a motor with fried internals, as long as the crank and rods are in good shape, I could give a dang, because it'll be coming apart anyway! Thanks again for all your trouble, thus far. K.C.
