Post

Hey all,

I have a 91 Ka24DE that I just recently picked up, quite a bit of difference from my old 90 SOHC. However, cant escape the inevitable. I have some rattling coming from the valve cover area, I am assuming the timing chain. (the noise I hear seems to be coming from the front of the valve cover) I am waiting on my local parts store to get me in a new valve cover gasket, then I am going to dig in.

The noise is happening when I first fire it up, then whenever I am de-celerating. Under acceleration the noise goes away, I am assuming that it is something with the chain, and when I put a load on it it is tightening up, then when I let off stuff is flopping around.

I have read quite a few old posts where people take the cover off and their guides are just laying on their chain, I am really hoping this is my problem. Anyways, I have also been reading that you can take 2 guides from the top chain, If I am wrong please correct me, but there is one on top, then on of the drivers side that I can remove.

My question is, what are the other possibilities? HOw much time/money am I going to be into on this job (Replacing the chain and the tensioner, and removing the guides, anything else I want to do while I am right there? I know most people are goin to say: do the bottom one to, but right now I dont have that type of time, or money. But if some people could give me the difficulty level, along with some base prices to go on I would appreciate it. A drawing showing the 2 guides that I can remove would be very helpfull as well..

Sorry if I have annoyed anyone, I know the timing chain topic is like beating a dead horse, but i did search and got tons of good info first, just wanted to clear some stuff up.

Thanks,

James
