I found this on the 350Z forum and I thought it would be relevant here. I think that this would be an interesting device I don't know about the current picture but once they have a finished product it might be pretty neat.

new press release, says Nissan & some phone manufacturer (which I haven't heard of) are making a new phone that can act as a keyfob & engine start/stop.

could be cool, but does it work with all 350zs ?!

When I was reading about I was like. Lot easier to misplace the i key then the phone. Then I was reading your comment.

I think it would be cool.

How do you call for assistance when you lock your keys in the car?

That's the best part of the I key. You can't lock your key in. Only way to be able to lock your key in if you lock the door from inside or lock the door with the other key. But then you just open it with the other key.

The car with I key have 5 or 6 I key sensors inside and outside the car so if there is a key near the car it will know about it.

That is a really funny comment about locking your keys in the car though.

If you had that and a biometric finger print reader on your door at home you would not need keys at all for the most part. I would be all for that as I hate crap in my pockets.

What if I use the lock in the interior (as years of driving domestic have trained me) as i am exiting.

I'm much more likely to take my phone out of my pocket while driving, than take my keys out

P.S. I'm the idiot who left his car running after lunch one day, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt

I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that the external sensors wouldn't register the key in the interior

You are correct the car knows where the keys are based on the receiver signals. If the key is outside of the cabin the car will indeed not start.

LOL

Then no matter what you have you'll have a problem.

There is no such a thing as perfect. Although the I key is really close to it.I guess the car is not smart enough to realize you lock the door from inside and you are not inside.

Also I am pretty sure it will be some sort of back up key(like I key has) will be provided with the phone. Since phone battery has tendeny to die in a few days not like the I key battery.

For you maybe a good idea to keep a copy of the key in a plastic bag attached to the car with a magnet somewhere outside under the car. "Just in case" if you accidently leave your key in the car.

Neat idea, but I don't agree with it. I for one like to have separate things for each function. I hate blackberry's, iPhones and the like. If it dies - you lose everything. At least with my cell phone, my i-key, my pda, my wallet, etc, if I lose one, I don't lose everything.

I recently heard about mastercard/visa teaming up with cell phone compaines talking about having your car information stored in your phone and you would be able to pay with your phone and not need a credit card. I've also seen phone txt coupons and such....

Everything is becoming a little "too" integrated for me...

I could not be agree more. I still love how you can do things like this. I don't think they would replace the ikey withthe phone. I think it would be just paired up with it. Like your garage door opener and the remote for it. In that case it wuld make sense.

I am not a big fan of multifunctional phones for a same reason. If you break it you brake 3-4 thing together. Means you have to replace 4 things.

About the credit card thing. Well It is already in work in Europe. Also there is a better option there. I used to live in downtown small city in Europe. We could of pay parking meters thru phone. How that workes. There is a phone # on each meter. You call and follow the instruction. How many minutes/hours you want to buy press...... It will show up on your cell bill. It is safer then credit card info on the phone.

Also they started to do same thing at some of the drive thru ATM machines. You did not have to punch in your # on the keypad of the ATM. You can use your phone to do everything and grabb the money. I don't know how well that workd out because I just left Europe when they started doing it. Maybe it is not even on anymore. I think this one kind of useless but parkometers are awesome. Especially when you have no change on you.
