I just recently got my SR running in my 200sx. It's been making a pretty bad noise since the first start and I havn't been able to pinpoint it. Take a look at my video and see if you have a clue what it could be. To me it sounds like it's around the bell housing... take a look and let me know. thanks

Sure your flywheel/clutch/etc is all tight? Does it drive?

what type of clutch flywheel setup? it is kind of hard to install the clutch backwards, but it can be done. power steering rack could be going bad. does the noise change if you push in the clutch? does the noise change if you move the steering wheel lock to lock? will the car engage in gear?

As far as I can tell the clutch is good. It engages smoothly. The sound doesn't seem to change if it's engaged or not... or while driving it. I drove it the other night. I was happy with how it felt.

I don't know yet about the power steering rack. I don't know much about that. I'll test that tomorrow and let you know.

I remember back when I installed the clutch, it was specifically marked "flywheel side" and "pressure plate side" I don't think I could have messed that up. I have a Fidanza flywheel with a clutch I got on ebay. said clutchnet on it. seems decent. it's a 6 puck. stage 3.

I had a friend of mine look at it today. He said it sounded like a bearing has gone bad in something. PS pump etc. In an accessory.

I have noticed that when I'm steering while the car is moving really slow I'll get some belt squeal. But I think that's just due to the fact that I don't have a tensioner on it. It's a little loose. I'll get that tightened up as soon as I find it. lol.

I appreciate the help

Did you put powering steering fluid back in the reservoir? My money is on the power steering.

Ok, I have an update.I removed the power steering belt and ran the car for a minute today. it sounded exactly the same. That rules out the PS pump at least... and probably the entire PS system cuz the car was sitting still. didn't move or anything.

Any other ideas?

almost sounds like your starter is staying engaged , did you install the bellhousing spacer i ran into this and my pressure plate was hitting the trany??i take it you installed a new throw out bearing?? also take your main belt off just to verify it not the bearing in the alternator

Alright guys... it's been a while but I finally got around to figuring this out. I got to thinking about it the other day and I decided it was the spacer between the transmission and the engine. Wasn't sure how that worked but I looked into it today. I pulled the transmission just loose enough so that spacer was loose and I could turn it freely... I found the place the flywheel has been rubbing. it was on that circle area that goes around the starter. It had a bend in it and was sticking out too far. I just took my dremel and cut out the piece that was being rubbed on. i put it all back together and it sounded perfect from then on.
