Hey guys. It has been almost a year since I have been on here and this forum for verts was not here. I just felt like posting up my experience last year. You can read most of the story here in my f/s post. http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....86115http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....58348The short of it. My transmission blew, someone broke into my top and cut it up. All within a month. The car has just been sitting since then and I cant decide what to do with it. About half the time I just want to get rid of it and get some money, then the other half of the time I want to keep it and continue the project. After all of these problems I got an IS300 but I dont feel like spending the ~$6000 to turbo it just to blow its crappy transmission. I just want to hear some comments from fellow vert owners.

thanks, Eric

tough call man!

If it means anything to you... I saw your car and it was an inspiration to me to take on my project. I would have inquired to purchase your car, but I really wanted an RB.

Sounds like you are a little depressed about your car situation.... Keep your chin up! Get some perspective.. Most people can barely afford there 91 civic hatches. You have two awesome cars! A 240 'vert with an SR swap... what are there like 10 in the country? An IS300... the best brand in the world is Lexus, and you have their sport sedan! Nice car.. RWD, top quality, sweet car!!! Inline 6 that can handle huge HP!!!!

I'm not sure about the strength of the transmission in the IS, but you could always bolt up a 6 spd Supra transmission to it.

I can't help you much in deciding which car to keep, or what to do with your 'vert because I don't know your goals... Do you want to race.. go IS300, do you want to cruise in style.. 240sx.

Anyway.. point is most people would dream of having your car problems, so don't feel too depressed about it.

you managed to blow up the SR transmission? It hurts, but I have to say I'm impressed. I was beginning to think they were bulletproof.

wow. you and i are in the same boat. the transmission went out in my convertible and she's been sitting for two and a half months now. even though it has crossed my mind once or twice, i have no plans to sell her. i have decided that she won't be my project car. she'll get just enough goodies to make her look good, but that's about it.

Nah. That would be impressive. When I bought it I could see the driveshaft slinging transmission fluid. Eventually I put in a new output shaft seal. However, after I did that and cleaned it up I realized the plate on the top of the trannw where the shifter bolts in was leaking. After that 2nd gear blew. So the moral of this story...... SR transmission + low transmission fluid = bad.

agreed.

It seems to be a common problem with these junker motors. My trans did the exact same thing, so I replaced the rear output seal, but still see some leakage from time to time. I guess I should get back in there and pull that upper plate gasket before things get too bad. Tried to replace it when I was doing the rear output seal, but couldn't get it off. Didn't have enough whacking room with my hammer to get it out. Some time on the lift might fix that though.

I would recomend fixing the leak. Mine was leaking when I bought it and it ran for another 6 months or so after that before it died. For now it looks like my only option is to buy a KA transmission and swap it in. No one around has a SR transmission and from what I can gather the trannys are the same except for the bellhousing.

A little update. I just got a working SR transmission in the mail today. I fired up my vert and took her around the block. Tomorrow I am taking her to work and giving her a little clean up.
