Hi, I just found a standard 1989 240sx that's being sold for $1800.00 CAD

It has a KA24E engine, with no mods. Listed under is what has been added to the vehicle.

R&R'd: Master Cylinder ( Jan. 2007), Alternator (Sept. 2008), Timing Chain (June 2007), Starter (April 2006), Rear Brakes (Nov 2007) = most recent work.

There are no major problems except for the speedometer sensor which does not work. Therefore, there is no working Cruise Control or Speedometer/Odometer.

Car is fully loaded: Sunroof, PW, A/C etc... Interior is black in very good condition. Clean all round. Rear seat looks new, no cracks in dash. Exterior and paint is in overall very nice condition. There are two stock rear rims that are not on the car, but will come with the car once purchased. To see the pics of the car, you can go to this site.

The only detail I don't know about the 240sx is the kilometers the car has, but I will find out soon enough. So what do you guys think of it?

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

KK sweet. So what would be the max km's for the engine of this car? What if it has too much? What should be my maximum tolerance of acceptable km's? Thanks in advance.

Alright, thanks a lot man. So what are the common problems the 89 240's experience?

What are the pro's and con's of the 89's anyways? I know it has a single cam, instead of dual cams. And it has 140 HP stock instead compared to the 155 HP (91-93 240's).

But since the 89's are lighter than the 91's-93's, they may be almost equal in speed. So what do you think?

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Common problems you ask? I'd say nissan #3 rod bearing on any KA, but if well maintained you should be able to squeeze 200k out of it.

-Hatch rust is a huge common problem which looks like you might have starting around the spoiler, take the spoiler off and seal it up or fix that rust!-Tail light seals tend to crumble in 15 years, which would be a while ago. Re do those seals with some clear silicone and your trunk will not be full of water anymore. Make sure when you do those seals you take the tail lights out and scrape off the old tar, not just squirt silicone everywhere!Timing chain guides can break off and destroy things in your engine. No matter what you have, KA24E, KA24DE, SR20DET, at least take the upper guide off, as nissan even supports this fix.

Don't really know of many other common problems. When you start modding you'll come across problems lol, but for now it's going to be pretty solid. It's a nissan my sentra is a mule that does what I say when I say it, and needs minimal maintenance . <3 Nissan.

I'll occasionally drift with it. But it will mostly be a daily driver.

Fred, you don't even know how to drift.

Sliding the rear end of a 88' Corolla in the snow isn't drifting.

Upper chain guide in the single cam KA... you can't take that off.

KAEs have just 2 guides, one on the tensioner side and one on the loose side.

The problem you will find, however, is on the loose side the guide will snap in two. Mine was.

Replacement timing chain kits come with a metal backed guide instead of a full plastic guide. This remedies the snapping problem.

SOHCs can be bullet proof if you're not over revving them. They don't have enough power to hurt themselves.
