I added about 1 1/2 quarts of ATF fluid to my murano and i started having issues with the car after about 20 min of driving, the car would kind of jerk and then rev and then get going, i went to nissan bough transmission fluid and flushed the system out and it is still doing the same thing, Could someone please help and chime in on this because i am kind of panicking at this point.

Do you have a warranty? I do know that irreparable damage can be caused do the the completely different friction characteristics. You may not like what the reality of this might be. Hopefully its only something small. Get it looked at soon. Good Luck.

CVT transmissions are not repairable by the dealer and have to be replaced which then the core unit would be sent back to the manufacturer to be refurbished if refurbishable....

i recall CVT transmission replacements to be around the price of $6k and no one else can do the replacement other than the dealer

Does warrenty even cover damage due to owner's error and not a product defect....

I guess if you had already reflushed it with CVT fluid then maybe you can try to get it replaced under warrenty at another dealer that did not know you had previously put ATF in it.... good luck....

well i immediately drained the transmission and filled it back up, but im assuming that there is more in the torque converter and i am going to try and do the drain and fill again, because the it works perfect when the car is cold but when it gets hot since oil contracts it has issues.

When the two fluids are combined they form sludge. I have little experience with the CVT since I have been with Infiniti for several years but when I was at Nissan I personally had a few that had non-cvt fluid installed in them and they were trashed pretty quickly. I really wish you the best on this and hopefully it will be covered under warranty without question.

mixing the fluids is not good, if there is any sign of fluid other than CVT fluid, nissan will not warranty the transmission. Before you panic though, open your hood and check your air intake. Often the tube seperates and causes a lean mixture which feels very much like a transmission issue. If you take it to the dealer, make sure the fluid looks GREEN. Good luck.

Using a fluid other than Nissan's NS-2 CVT fluid will void your warranty and most likely damage the CVT itself. The NS-2 CVT fluid is a proprietary blend designed specifically for the CVT transmission, as it requires a different level of lubrication for the different moving parts that it contains. There currently is no other aftermarket CVT fluid, nor would I trust any other, seeing as how new the CVT is and the complexity contained within. Do not refill the CVT with any over the counter AT fluids!
