1990 300zx twin turbo. I have looked into doing the job myself. The driver side idler stud wore its way out and belt slipped off. I caught it in enough time, clamped everything and slipped the belt back on. It is at tdc. I must be on the correct revolution, because the crank mark matches the oil pump case. Marks on passenger side are correct. Marks on drivers side gears are incorrect by about ten teeth. My question is...Can i loosen the tension on the belt and just rotate the driver side gears backwards or forwards to correct position?

To be honest, I would pull it off and start from the beginning. How you are saying should work, but when it comes to something this touchy and detrimental, I wouldn't risk it. Just remember those timing marks on the back are just for reference. When you get all back on, count the cogs. Double count, after all the proper measurements are done, turn it by hand all the way around make sure nothing hits before starting the car. Any resistance, do not force it. Good luck, we are here to help.

So i did what everyone told me, i took the belt off and started from scratch. Wasn't that bad. I got the belt off and re
installed it in about 1 hour. I thought it was going to be harder than what it was. Thank everyone for their posts about timing belts and ttzd or dallas tx.
