I'm currently building a ka24det.

But tonight I purchased a completely dissembled SR20DET for 150 bucks cash.

it is a RWD, the distributor is on the front and it has the oil bung on the side. I'm pretty sure its a red top but I don't have a valve cover so I don't know.. lol

Yeahhh! I'm excited. I'm still finishing my ka-t project for this summer tho!

Didn't happen to buy it from some guy in hershey did you?

Looks promising. I almost thought the "redtop" KA was the SR you were talking about I was about to post and be like ummmmm you got hosed lol.

Good find man. GL with the build up!

BTW, i see your PS line is hacked. No worries, your KA24DE line will bolt up to the ps pump. In fact the pump itself is the same for non hicas SR20det(s). Just the thin metal bracket that attaches it to the tensioner is different, so you can swap it.

No Chippewa(sp?).

And the ps pump is off my ka, I have 2 ka's lol and that came with the long block i purchased. no pump came with the sr.

The sr is missing the following from what i can tell:

valve coveroil pandistributorpullys

Rest looks intact and ready to go. he gave me extra pistons and 2 extra cam shafts.

Welcome aboard! What's not to like about the SR? It makes good power, fairly cheap, parts availability, and it gets good gas mileage. There'll always be haters though.

Future, if it has a dizzy its an SR20DE. If you decide you dont want it because of that fact, I may take it off of your hands.

Your SR also looks like it's missing the crank. Unless it's in your plastic container.

Okay, i'm totally new to the sr20, i'm a total ka-t person. I know its not a distributor its the cas right? and it has an oil bung on the side..you can see it in the picture.

There is NO where on the back of the engine for the distributor. So it would have to be rwd. I'll take some better pictures later tonight...

So..do you think it would be smart to rebuild this engine..

It spun a rod bearing and he gave me an oem set of rod bearings.. But I've been told it might have done that due to a bad oil pump..thats what someone I know told me might have happened could that be true? if so is this worth it..?

That's a SR20DET block. If it lost oil pressure that surely could have caused it. Also maybe it over-revved? If you decide to cut your loses and sell it, contact me first. I'm in PA and Ill drive over and get it.

I really don't want too..even at that I think it would be a steal..I wanted to build a sr20det when i bought my 240 but decided on the ka-t afterwards..

I hate most of my friends because they're like you'll never do anything. lol

yet I do anyway.

So what does everyone think about this? how would i test the oil pump?..

Actually I gotta look around I don't even think he gave it too me lol

Alrighty, I just wanted you to know if you decide that you want more money for your KA-T, E-mail me. Otherwise your oil pump is pictured above, its part of your front cover assembly.

oh really? well isn't there a part that bolts to it that goes into the oil pan? similar to the ka..

I don't remember seeing it but I haven't looked thorough I will be tomorrow afternoon though I have off work. :D

That's it. lol I couldn't think of the name. Its late. :p

Now if the oil pump is bad is that expensive to fix? and he said if that was the problem was that i'd have to get the crank spun and then the oem bearings wouldn't work...now is that a possibility? and how would i go about checking the crank to see if somethings wrong..

You could buy a new oil pump, I dont know what they run, sorry. You are correct in the fact that if you have the journals cut that your going to need larger bearings to compensate. You can check the bearing journals on the crank for scratch marks or gouges.

So if the bearing journals don't have and scratches or gouges I can still use it? What are the chances of this?

you can try and get everything polished but if its scored, itll have to be machined maybe 1-2 mm depending on said damage...then buy bearings accordingly

that is a redtop SR...it doesnt have the fins on the front side of the head yet...blacktops do

the oil pump is built intot he front cover and isnt that expesive or hard to replace if the motor is out of the car...$175 bucks give or take a couple

If your crank journals are all still shiney and nice, you may want to take it to a machine shop just to have it checked out, but I would re-use it, and check the big ends of rod's out also.

yeah I was looking around 200 or so brand new. That's not bad at all...so I'll check the damage if any on the crank tomorrow and let you guys know!
