Whenever I have to stop at a light or a stop sign, the engine stalls

For example: Im in 2nd, I want to stop the car so i press the clutch, go to neutral and press the brakes. As soon as I press the brakes to have the car to a full stop, the engine stalls.

I notice that when I press the brakes, the engine lowers in idle down to 400-300 rpm

I changed spark plugs, wires, cleaned the MAF sensor, nothing changes

so basically, everytime I have to stop, I have to keep the revs up while braking (in neutral)

What the hell is wrong with my car? Im sick of driving like this

whats your base idle at? More info about the car (aka year/model/any mods you've done to the motor recently)

We're not your neighbor man, you have to give us something to go off of here...

when the car is warmed up, it idles around 650-800 rpm

The engine is the stock KA24de with exhaust and k/N filter

Sounds about right for your base idle. The only things I can think of are;

Check your voltage at your battery at idle. I am thinking the current draw from your brake lights is killing the car. Do you drive at night? how does the motor respond when you turn your headlights on?

Did the car always do this or has it just begun recently? Did you just pick the car up?

An easy way to test the charging system for free is to take it to an Advance Auto Parts or Autozone store. They can hook up a diagnostic tool to verify if your battery or alternator is bad. You may also have a poor ground to your alternator or bad connection in your charging system

Check your battery terminals too.

Start with that and let us know if the problem is fixed or not.

I do notice that when I put the gear into neutral, the dash lights dim slightly, especially if I try to have the engine decelerate from 5500 rpm down to idle

so im assuming its the recharging system

btw I installed an ebay voltage stabilizer about 6 months ago http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

Wandering idle is usually an electrical problem (like grounds), not complete stalling. The entire intake system would be well to be examined most like the throttle body is gunked or something.

True; I still say test the charging system. If your battery is shot and you're running off of the alternator or vice/versa it could be enough to kill the motor. My friend had an RB20 swapped S13 chasses with bad alternator wiring and the same thing would happen. it would run fine until they turned the headlights on and hit the breaks then the motor would die deader than a spider on the bottom of my shoe (I hate spiders with a passion.)

it's free @ Advance or Autozone if there is one nearby though so it will only take a minute of your time and may solve your problem.

If you have a free weekend it's never a bad idea to do general maintenance on the car though.

go ahead pick up some carb cleaner while your there to do the intake with

In addition to the good suggestions above, I'd also second the throttle body cleaning and check the IACV...

It's likely the IACV but clean the TB first.

At least my SR has one. It's what controls the motor's air intake at Idle so you don't stall out. I'm pretty sure KA's have them and they will directly cause the OP's problem.

It wouldn't have any effect. The car will drive normally just not idle.

turns out that a vaccum hose slipped out of my intake system. The opening was hidden from plain sight as it was ubderneath the intake. I don't stall out anymore

same thing happend to me when I picked up my car. but, when I ran the AC on, the car won't stall. I had a massive vaccum leak because of the motor rocking back and forth due to bad motor mounts.

check your motor mounts. maybe they are dead. I just upgraded to the nismo mounts. you definitely feel the vibration around idle and take off but not as much as urethane mounts that I used on my old honda.
