Ok... it flooded pretty bad in my city the other day... ran my 1990 infiniti Q45 into a good foot and a half of water... I let the car drain out and some how manage to get it started (after a day of trying...) And I drive it the 20 miles home... Next day i go out to start it... and it wont start. My stepfather and I get the car in the garage and start looking at everything. Battery seems fine... but to be safe we traded out my battery for my stepfathers Q45 (1992) to see if that would work... Still nothing... We get under the car and check the starter... One of the terminals was completely rusted off... We try for a little while to get the starter off... We cant figure any sort of way to do that... Anybody have some pointers as to how we would go about doing that... Thanks for the help (in advance)... id love to get my baby started again...

Welcome to NICO!!!

Looking at the FSM, it looks as if you have to remove the exhaust manifold to get to it..... And there is 2 bolts holding it on the upper right and lower left hand side (looking at it from a face on view, from the front of the engine)..... Theres another nut that hooks on, but I cant tell where it hooks onto.....

If youd like, ill send you the pages out of the FSM to help you out...... Email me!!

We'll get your baby back on the road!!!!

Just an update...

To get to the starter, we had to take out the cars swaybar... After that it was still quite a challenge... Like i said... one of the terminals was FRIED... wiring stripped... We are trying to get the positive battery cable out to change all the wiring that goes to it... We are in the process of taking out the alternator... While doing that... i noticed that I needed new belts... sigh... I swear... with these cars... when you have one problem... its like a snowball tumbling down the hill... Gets bigger and bigger til the end... i'll keep ya updated... and if i had a digital camera i would take a picture of the starter... but... oh well...

Figure out what fried it before hooking up a new unit...was it just high resistance from the corrosion, or something else? Check the wires with a voltmeter with the battery hooked up before you make contact.
