I'm guessing you didn't deck the block and mill the head?

The oem HG is good for plenty of power ( >500whp)

Been there, done that. zerothread?id=171356

You cannot put a MHG on a surface that hasn't been decked. eh? lucked out on getting one to seal without it.

If you don't want to tear the block down to have it machined, I agree with his suggestion of going with an OEM gasket. It will hold up to more abuse than the piston rings will, so don't worry about it not being upgraded.

I have had a lot of issues with both cometic and cosworth headgaskets... Even on a decked block and head, I have had cometic hg's leak. They supposedly revised the design of the second gasket I had to install which seems to have fixed the problem. But I would not use there headgaskets again.

Cosworth gaskets seem to have a weird issue with minors leak and engine knocking. On multiple motors with cosworth hg's I was seeing unusually high knock. Swapped the hg's out for other brands like tomei, apex'i, etc... and the knocking went away...

Before you pull the head off i would bypass the coolant hoses on oil cooler and make sure the factory oil cooler isnt bad. It might still be the headgasket but i have seen plenty of oil coolers go bad on vw/audi. Plus it is easier to pull off the oil cooler.

I've had the same issue with my RB25. Cometic gasket leaked. I "upgraded" to a new OEM gasket. No issues.

I do not get this how can a gasket make an engine "knock"

Thanks guys I had the head decked and the block was checked by my machine shop. Can I go back and retorque the head maybe to 100ftlbs ? and see if it seals up, If I break a stud Im still pulling the head so its worth a shot

Yeah no luck took the torque to 95 and it still pours out?? Even tho my block was checked and cleaned and the h/g was soaked in that copper spray? Why would it leak that bad? I looked on the cometic package it said rb26 is this my problem??? or are the 25 and 26 the same??

Im not sure if the 25 and 26 gaskets are the same or not but im not a big fan of the copper spray. My reason is when a headgasket is torqued the material spreads out as it is squeezed. Copper spray wont allow the material to spread out evenly. To get a metal head gasket to seal correctly the block and head surfaces must be finished to a certain roughness. Plus if the coper spray dries before the head is torqued it will also not seal correctly. That is my thoughts on copper spray and metal headgaskets. Maybe someone else can elborate more on the matter.

Seems like you and lexrob are making the same exact mistakes at the same time. I'm beginning to mix the two of you up. LOL!

If you read through my build thread from years and years ago, I tried getting away with just decking the head and not the block. It didn't work for me either. I ended up saying f**k it and rebuilt it with forged pistons etc. You obviously don't have to do that. The only other option is to pull the head again and reinstall an organic gasket. And I'm with mott on the copper gasket spray. It is a band-aid treatment. That's why it only costs $2 a can.

\OMG... So I figured it out .. the car ran great it just pumped oil into the coolant passage. So I pulled the head and compared the new cometic with the old one and BAM!! Turns out the guys at alamo motorsports sent me an rb26 h/g .... Needless to say I was pissed so I call them and they wanted to give me the run around and tried selling me an Rb25 h/g at cost...lol I told them that I was calling my bank and hung up .... 5 mins later they called me and are overnighting me a new one ..... So I think I will see the dyno this week.....

I'm still betting against the Cometic gasket sealing even if it is the correct gasket LOL. Sorry for being a pessimist.
