OK....I need some help here. When my car hits the top end of the gear, it makes this really wierd grating sound like metal grinding. If I get in it , it makes the noise even worse. I have no idea about transmissions, so I need some advice. Sometimes the thing will hit 95-100 MPH, and sometimes I have to force the freakin' thing to get up to 60 or 70. If anybody knows what the crap is wrong with the thing please let me know. Thanks. :angryfire :firedevil

OK. It has plenty of fluid. That's the first thing I checked. Now, Loveless......I didn't quite get the comment about it being lost or the factory putting in two. But anywho, I checked it again today, and it was still full of fluid. The fluid is also still quite clean and it doesn't look like there's any shavings in it. I'm just lost I guess.

okay

to be honest with you, you should clarify the problem in depth... I really don't know what you mean when you say " force the freakin' thing to get up to 60 or 70"

If your transmission is not grinding, not sliping, not hard to shift into/out of gear then your transmission shoudl be fine. Maybe the sound is from your engine, making noise at high rpms, tried compression test yet? did you misshift lately?

where is the sound coming from? front of the car? back of the car? do you feel anything when you hear the sound? shift knob vibrating coinside with the noise you refer to? etc etc etc

By force it... I mean I have to give it a lot more gas than usual.

It's not slipping, just grating.

No misshifts and no I haven't done any compression tests yet.

And the sound comes from the front of the car right under the radio slot in the console. No vibrations either.

when i get up to 100 mph or so, my shifter or something in that area vibrates fairly loudly...but i have a B&M shifter...and a modded SR :pface....but still...noise is noise...i never have any problems getting to 100 tho...
