I keep seeing much bigger MAF tubes in other peoples pics and ads for z-tubes and custom intakes. Mines a little choke point that I'm sure clogs up the flow.

I have an '04 Coupe MT. Why is my MAF smaller than all the other boys and how can I make my MAF tube bigger? Do I need to reporgram anything if I do change the MAF sensor's environment?

I don't think you have a smaller "MAF tube"...The MAF is a sensor that has a metal housing to protect it. Most people just add aftermarket intake bellows (Popcharger/Z-tube) to replace the OEM. The OEM design, while much quieter isn't really a choke point. Some aftermarket intake systems have you remove the MAF sensor and insert it into a specially designed intake tubing.

You do not need to program the ECU, ie tuning, until you do more extensive mods (forced induction).

If you are concerned, MEASURE the MAF assembly restriction with a Dwyer Manometer Gauge [from ebay], historically Nissan has used units which are designed to create no more than 7"* of water column at redline.

7"/27.7 = 0.2527 psi 14.447/14.7 = 0.98278 so 1.7% restriction At redline, probably 1% at HP peak rpm and 1/4% at torque peak and nothing at cruise rpm.

Inexpensive Manometers [in different scales] are very useful in redesigning things. I have dozens, some so sensitive they can measure the difference in air filter elements to a 0.1" water column or 0.00361 psi accuracy.

*Usually the intake, air filter housing, and horn feeding MAF are less than 5" so THE SUM of these components will be less than 12" WC.

Really difficult to reduce restrictions and maintain functionality.........lots of work to gain 1-2 HP.

If you don't understand Q, don't feel bad. Not many people do... I always wonder where he gets this dictionary answer...
