After more than a year saving up and buying parts (and cars...), the time has come where I am FINALLY turning a few bolts and getting this project off the ground. Right now I have pretty much everything I need to turbo the car... so it's time for the KA to come out:

I have to say, it came out pretty easially. No rust on a car makes for pretty easy removal. We pulled it yesterday which was Sunday, so there was no chance I was going to be able to buy the real Nissan brand engine hoists that I forgot we'd need...we ended up just making a set of our own:

Home Depot special: pressed steel reinforcment T's cut down and drilled out, worked perfectly. Cost less than a buck to make, too!

So yup, the engine is out. Next step is to clean the hell out of this engine bay, install the MC for the clutch, along with a couple other things, and we'll be almost good to go to drop the new engine in!

Wooooo

Cool fiznat, keep us updated. I'm in the same boat you are, well close to it. Saving up for one big turbo transformation/engine build and have most of the stuff. Did you build your engine? KAE or KADE?

yup and yup. here's my complete setup:

*big breath*

*Built 1997 KA with S13 OBD: -Ross 8.5:1 .20 over forgies -Stock rods, magnafluxed and balanced -Ferra exhaust valves + headwork -Clevite bearings -ARP rod bolts -Cometic metal headgasket -All the machine shop goodies (micropolished crank, block+rods were magnafluxed, deck, bore+hone, block hot tanked+painted, line hone if I need it, etc etc etc...)*T3/T04E .50 trim turbo with the .63 A/R, 360 deg thrust bearing and heat coated*ETD manifold*PWR 24x8x3 core FMIC*HKS SSQV BOV*Tial 38mm Wastegate*MSD 6al ignition w/ the Blaster II coil*RPS 6 puck sprung hub clutch*Walbaro 225 fuel pump*Apexi N1 dual

That's pretty much the basics. It will all be run through the AEM EMS standalone system with the Uego wideband for tuning.

Should be pretty sweet, I cant wait till I can get this baby on the road!

I don't see any injectors in there. No offense fiz, but why not just get forged rods as well? I mean you've gone this far....you know your going to want to bump up the boost

oops sorry, I forgot to put the injectors in there... duh.

I'll be using MSD 50# sitting on a JWT fuel rail... I know there's more stuff I forgot too...

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm really excited to have finally "broken ground" on this project here, I've been waiting so long and now it's finally coming together (or apart, at this stage I suppose...).

I decided not to go with forged rods because I honestly dont feel like they're worth it. I looked at the stock rods (which are forged and shotpeened from the factory), and I really feel like they're beefy enough to handle the power I'd like to make. Even my machinist was really impressed with these rods... I have no doubt that as long as I dont try to rev the crap out of this engine, everything will be perfectly fine.

well i wish i had space for an extra block, but I already have soem space issues with my 1.5 SOHCs lying around... so no, but thatnks, and i hope you can sell it to someoneif you REALLY can't find a buyer and need wanna keep it around, I coudl find some spare space maybe... btu I doubt a KA will be laying around for long, someone is boudn to want it.You can also play aroudn with the valve cover and paint it, and swap for the one you have on right now, see if you like it, then paint the original one, etc... thats what I did

Got 2 240s and a spare engine 2 SOHC and DOHC in the one I drive.$2600 in the bank still trying to decide where to go with my project. Turbo the SOHC if it blows up can just unbolt and bolt back on to the other engine. Any suggestions on what setup would be good.Car's gutted completely dash is out A/C etc.
