So yeah I am a noob to nissan but I have been working on cars for about 8yrs and I want a good winter project. I was going to go 2jz but this is a nissan so why not stick with nissan, right. Well I have a couple of questions and was wondering if anyone can give me any heads up to what they had the most trouble with .

I saw a post for a dvd swap guide and was wondering if there are any made by anybody for a RB26 in S14 . Or how similar a RB25 install is to the RB26. I plan on spending around 6K on the swap. And I was wondering where the most reliable place to buy the RB26 engine and RB25 transmission. I would also like to try and keep ac and power steering, so I was wondering if that is possible or just a pipe dream. And last I need an engine stand and was wondering if anyone new where I could buy one set up for the RB26. I will probably start this project in october, and become a regular on this forum for odd and end help .

Thanks,

Rzerob

well I hate to break it to you but 6k might not be enough, that is if you plan on doing it right. 6k would be a good start on a rb25 though. I have seen people run both a/c and p/s on RBs.

Wow that sucks, but anything worth having is worth fighting for. Maybe 8K. I plan on rebuilding the motor before the install so yes I do plan on doing it right. And unless the price of the swap gets to around 20k I will continue to pursue the RB26. Thanks for the insight nissans13240sx, I appreciate the heads up. And I am excited to hear I can keep power steering and AC, I wonder if that is in one of the swap dvds.

Thanks,

Rzerob

Yea, again $6k is a anemic budget to get everything properly done especially reading your post it sounds like you want it to be a smooth daily driver with all the perks.

Well good news is that its possible to retain both A/C and power steering.

The RB26 is very similar swap to the RB25, and the topic on what and how it's all done has been covered over and over on this forum and can be found in the stickies as well.

The NICO vendors are a good place to begin your search for a motor.

Not many places will sell you a RB26, RB25tranny combo but some do, so start the search if your looking to do it that way.

Good luck, hope your journey deems successful

Thanks Coolwhip,

I have searched and found write ups and after reading those and others oppinions I finalized my decision for the RB26. I am just wondering about a DVD swap similar to DRIFTING.com. They have a DVD for a RB25 into a S13, will that be simular enough to a RB26 into a S14? And is the wiring the same? And I am looking for an engine stand specifically for the RB26.

Thanks,

Rzerob

I dont think there is an rb specific engine stand. All engine stands are pretty much universal/adjustable. Also i see you are in PA as well, I know someone that can wire it for you. Email me at [email protected] if your interested.

there is a RB26 specific engine stand that supports it from the side so you can have better access to the engine and better support.

However, no sense in looking for such a contraption and it hooks up to the factory AWD setup so no use there.

Just buy any engine stand that is sturdy and strong, any dinky one will show its weakness to the weight of the RB fully dressed.

Thanks again Coolwhip, I already have a couple sturdy engine stands but wanted to make sure I didn't need a specific one for the RB. I have only ever rebuilt Chevy(GM), Ford and Honda. This will be my first Nissan rebuild, and I am really excited. The only thing I am slightly intimidated by is the wiring. But Nissans13240sx just mentioned someone who can help me out there. Thanks Nissans13240sx I will be getting a hold of you after I start the swap. So the only thing I need to know now(as of the moment) is if the DVD for a RB25 into a S13, will similar enough to a RB26 into a S14. Or if there is anywhere I can buy a RB26 into a S14 DVD. And then I will be good until I run into my first problem, when I actually begin the swap(sometime in October).

Thanks,

Rzerob

if your talkin you want to rebuild the Rb26 your gunna be talkin around 10k at least to do this swap. To put a stock rb26 not rebuilt in the car correctly and reliably its gunna cost you around 8k maybe more. I bugeted 8k for my Rb30 and im way over that because theres alwasys something you need to buy. RB's get real expensive, Real fast.

If your bound and determined to rebuild a motor then buy one that someone blew up-otherwise it seems like a waste to build a otherwise good motor. I just finished putting in a RB25 in my s13. I'm guessing that I have around 12-13K into this project mostly in the engine bay--Ive done all my own fab work including making my own motor mounts and hot, cold and down pipe. There is definitely more involved in a rb26 swap so consider the $$$ carefully.

Thanks guys(Driftx, Rotorimp, lilskyline240), I believe I am mentally prepared and I have a nest egg that has been building up for a while so I now believe I will be prepared financially by october(WOW that is alot of money). I am going to have a RB26 in my S14 as long as nothing bad happens that would drain my account, lose my car(stolen, accident, ect.)or something unexpected(Daddy? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO).

And I am not afraid of the wiring, it is just unfamiliar territory with the nissan. So I would like a dvd or manual, but preferablly a DVD. I will post when I have the motor in the garage. Then I will apply to be a member of the NRRBA.

Thanks,

Rzerob

all in all, if you have been around enough motors and you are a knowledgeable mechanic then everything that you encounter should be common sense. Just take your time, do your home work, and build a nasty RB car.

if you want you can check out my old rb26 swap progress pics into my 98 240sx. http://forums.racebread.com/index.php?topic=1637.0

also make sure you also take shipping fees into consideration cause its cost me around $1000-$1800 or so for shipping (rb engine, trans, parts etc.)

Thanks HxC_Nismo it was an interesting read. Good job by the way. I will take into consideration the shipping fees. But I still plan on doing this swap. I probably won't order the motor until October, I will post updates after I recieve it. I will probably contact you if I have any issues considering you did what I plan to do.

Thanks,

Rzerob

those swap dvds are SO RETARTED. I downloaded one and watched 3 seconds of it before I died laughing.

And the only advice i would give, whatever you budget is, add 1500-2000 in random ****. Of course noone listens to this, which includes me back in the day, but its the sad truth of semi-hybrid swaps.
