in the pass i opened a thread for an electrical issue for my instrument cluster on a 91 nissan 240sx se. i have hud and the problem is my dash lights and my speedometer doesnt come for 45min with the heat on. ive tested circuits for the power and ground and cant find any shorts. the glove box light exe. on the same circuit work. when everything is working and i pull the dash light curcuit fuse the dash lights turn off but the speedo still works. does anyone know what controls both? i dont want to replace the instrument cluster if thats not the problem. anything to test to make sure? any help would be great

i have the same problem with my 89 240, it takes like 20 or so min. for all the cluster lights to kick on. i just went to a junk yard today and i got a new TCU and i put that in and it didnt fix the problem. I'm going to get a new gauge cluster soon, ill let you no what happens with that. which grounds did you check?

well i took my speedo apart and tested a capasitor in there and it was bad. Thats why it takes so long to warm up because the capasitor only works when it gets warm, this would effect the entire gauge cluster. There is an article about it in the tech stuff with nico called speedo repair or something. I tried to replace the capasitor my self and its really hard, i ended up messin up the circuit board when i tried to solder the new one on becasue the its so small and has like 20 things on it. But any speedometer shop or like an electric shop could fix it if you didnt want to try yourself... i ended up replacing the cluster with a regular gauge cluster, the one with the needle and it worked fine, all you need to get is the cluster and the small wiring harness that connects into the cluster ( about one foot long ). Hope this has helped you....

could the digital speedo not working account for the fact that NONE of my cluster lights come on?

thanks

No...

My digital speedo was busted and my interior cluster lights worked fine..

Check your fuses.Did you recently install a aftermarket radio?Did you recently switch clusters? Is it just your cluster that doesn't have lights or is it your A/C and buttons (cruise control etc.)

the cluster is original, to my knowledge, and yes there is a aftermarket radio, and NONE of the lights work...the dome and kick panel lights do work though....

i purchased the car 2 days ago in the current condition..... i have been told that the diode on the HUD clusters go out and have to be changed... any input on that?
