My 1991 M30 has a low mile 300z turbo motor with low mile on it. When we were tuning the car on the dyno the stock auto transmission wasn't strong enough for all the hp (about 400) or so. So now I need to get a new one. Does anyone know how much horsepower a stock 300z auto transmission car take??I wanna run a auto transmission because I will mostly be dragracing it.

thanks for the help..

is it a z31 or z32 trans? what blew up in the trans? and if possible maybe a shift kit and soft different clutches might do the trick.

memory serves its an RE4R01A. I would think with a shift kit you should be able to handle 400HP...

Assume all the fluids are fresh and it was in good shape before you went with terbow powa?

What about a Level 10 rebuild? Wes should have some info on that.

the problem with a rebuild is to do it with an RE4R03A which is what you'd want to do (not sure how beefy you can build a 01A, 400 HP reliably may or may not be in the question) is you'd have to have custom driveshaft made since the 03A has a larger tailshaft, different TC and all kinds of fun stuff

Long story short, if you're gonna go that kind of trouble a 5 speed isnt that much farther off and would be a lot better, and im sure you'd enjoy it a lot more

Hey greg....Good idea! But my dad gave me the car and my money is limited....and if the stock z transmission can take 400 w/ a shift kit i will probably run that which will be cheaper than the level 10,which I looked into and it would run me about 4grand compared to the stock for like 600... but it nice to here from you on here.....The exhaust on the 200 has been great. Maby ill see you at NOPI this year

Just be sure, as you probably already know, to run an ATF cooler and good ATF, but more importantly to keep it fresh. Id go ahead and pick up a used 01A trans and get a valve body from IPT or level 10. Personally I prefer IPT over level 10 but to each their own.

the Q has some new shoes since you saw it at NOPI in 2005.

m30 love<3 solid pearl white<3<3

not as pretty, but 900 dollars :] im preppin' for paint

in regards to your setup..what a cluster screw haha. might i suggest you go and pick up an early maxima intake manifold, where the TB is positioned almost directly in the middle yet pointed towards the rear. lower manifold can be turned 180 since the ports and runners are the same...SHZAM, your TB will be located in the front and not the back of your engine bay.

example on a z31:dthumb
