I have a motor that i got from a friend and it wont run right no matter what i do. I figured it was the timing so i pulled the distributor and reset the timing. I thought it would run the same or better but it didnt even start. I then proceeded move the dizzy teeth one by one until it ran with backfire out the intake and then until it had slight backfire out the exhaust. I have tried everything short of removing the timing chains and lining them back up. It still runs about 120 degrees of what it should be.

The motor is currently back to stock at this point because it wont run right and i dont want to risk blowing it up

1. Could the dizzy be screwed up

2. Would the engine run if the timing chain was out of sync with the cams

3. What would you do if you were me

was the engine taken apart, if not, all the timing should be right..Make sure it's at TDC on the crank pulley, and make sure you're putting the distributor in right. I had to do it a bunch of times on my s13 to get it to run. I guess it kept being 180* off.

it still has the gray gasket crap on the front cover. Even when i swap the plug wires 1-4 2-3 it still wont run right.

EDIT

Well i drove it home today and when i first started it and hit the gas it had no power, so i cranked the dizzy to the right and i made it home with no problems. it still lacked some power but it ran and would spin the tires. Man i need help
