alright im between a rock and a 240sx, i reacently aquired a 1989 240sx hatch. the previous owner ****ed up the motor, he poured bar's leak into the engine instead of the radiator. the stop leak filled up all of the oil passages in the engine and fried the rod bearings, timing components, and lifters. When i got the vehicle i took the head off and inspected it, finding that it was in perfect condition. looked at the block and did a vacuum test to the cylinders, the pistons, rings, and bores were perfect. So i replaced the rod bearings, main bearings and everything you would in an engine rebuild excluding the pistons and rings. after i fired it up i had good oil pressure and compression and it was running great. took it for a spin and it had a **** load of rod knock. Took off the oil pan and inspected the botton end again. basicaly the big ends of the rods are shot, and so is the crank. i have spent about 600 dollars on parts plus all of my labor. and came up with a *****ed engine. Should i replace my engine, rebuild it again, or get a 180sx front clip for 1500 dollars? Sorry for the long post but im frickin annoyed about it. Thanks for your time. What should i do???

think I'd get another engine, which one it is, is your choice.

that sounds like it'd be a real mess to clean though, the previous owner needs some shoes thrown at him...

well i got the car for free, except for a 40 dollar tow. i asked him why he put bar's leak into the engine, he says to stop the valve cover from leaking.

I am pulling a great running SOHC from an 89 240 this week.$150 and it's yours. I am 15 minutes from Orinda.

Motor passes smog easily.

it depends on how much money you have or are willing to spend, I would probably swap for the CA personally.

the CA will be faster, but its not going to be a bolt in/pay only 1500 affair. You will need lots of other parts so i would suggestat teh BARE MINIMUM set aside 3 grand to do the swap. keep that in mind before you decide.

i dont see why it will cost more than 1500. im thiking maybe an extra 100 dollars for tune up parts.

jave to agree. The CA is a pretty easy swap. Maybe $100 worth of tune-up parts but if you get a decent CLIP, then you shouldn't have too many probs. On the other hand I would also agree that it would be nice to set aside quite a bit of $$$ in case something comes up. For what its worth I also have a KA24e and a spare KA24DE if you need it.

I say find out how much it'll cost to rebuild versus getting a new motor. The jdm engines will cost you more initially, but will probably get that turbo itch/desire out of the way for later.
