i just did a KA swap in my 89 240, the car threw no engine codes which is really rare. now for my question. i was thinking of putting an air intake on the car. i have a friend that said if i leave the stock intake and just put a cone filter, then i would get better results because plastic conducts heat less than metal. is this a good idea or will an intake help me?

Never heard that theory before, so i dont know about that. Pretty much the only noticable difference you are gonna get from and intake would be the intake sound, its louder and more aggressive. The reason for this is that you are removing the resonator box. Sure, you might gain a couple hp's but not enough to make a difference.

I've heard before (notice i said heard- so i dont know if this is true or not) that in order for a part to be carb legal and have a CARB EO number, it must have the same specifications as the stock peice it is replacing. If that's true, then all an aftermarket intake will really do is smooth out a few bends as opposed to the stock one. I plan on just using a k&n cone filter with a custom heat sheat. good luck with whatever you choose.

well thanks for the advice. i was leaning toward a k&n cone filter anyways. i want to have the whole stock look to the car. what exhaust and header do you suggest. which ones are the best for the 240s

For the header- stay away from pacesetter- ive heard only bad things about them. On the other hand ive heard a lot of good things about hotshot and S+S. you should be able to get an S+S with ceramic coating for under 350 i believe. As far as exhaust goes, its all personal preference.

Plastic absorbs heat, metal reflects heat.

My advice stauy away from all aftermarket cone filters. The improvement in airflow is miniscule, but you do eat more dirt.

Also since the engine ingests hotter underhood air you actually lose power vs the stock set-up in real world conditions ( the advertised "gains" are from running a dyno w/ open hood).
