No one can tell you what is really wrong without direct access to the unit. It could be as simple as a loose connector. What I would consider doing is checking all of the connections, especially from the changer to the main unit. It may well be a simple fix.
As another user mentioned you could also replace it. To me it is a matter of how much integration there is in this unit and the car as I have not really seen it more than in pictures. If it is minimal then replacing it may actually be cheaper and/or give you a much better unit for very little additional cost.
If you like the current unit and there is little wrong with it then it may well be worth keeping it and fixing what ails it.
One benefit of replacing it is that you can go to a more easily to upgrade unit right down to speakers and after market amps. One thing to keep in mind is the total package. That is if you want to 'net' parts of it together then you want to make sure you have that capability and that the other netted units have what you need like xm, etc.
For example in my other car I have Pioneer. A simple cable goes to the back of the car and connects into the xm module and cd player. You can add multiple players and also different models of players such as a 6 disc which I have or a 12 disc which I do not. Other brands work similar.
I tend to prefer something that is not 'all in one box'. That is I don't like a television with a dvd player in it (the player dies and you have issues), the same goes here. Some makes sense such as a nav unit that utilizes the same display as the radio.
