i have a 2.5 cvt and ive always had bad gas mileage. since ive had the car ive always averaged between 20.9 and 21.1 mpg. i dont have a heavy foot and i consider myself a normal driver and i have reset my mppg digital reader many times before but still always the same result. i dont have an exhaust or intake and i dont have the engine modified watsoever. i know 2.5 a/c's that get well over 27mpg. what should i do to fix this????

tire pressure? oil changes? aftermarket rims or intake? air filters clogged maybe, alignment , maybe there is some toe-in or toe out. aftermarket spoiler?bad cvt maybe? also I could be the fuel sensor thats out of wak. maybe you are getting good millage but the mpg gauge is wrong? there could be maybe a electrical leak because of the aftermarket sound system or leds or something thats making the alternator work overtime?

it also depends cause i believe the 2.5 is rated at 24mpg city which means if you stop every 30 mins and accelerate smoothly to 45 mph you get that mpg in the city and im sorry to say that driving at a constant 45 mph is impossible in the city. i also get really low mpg on my 2.5 but i know if i had 3.5 i would probly get 15mpg cause of the way i drive

unless it's 1000lbs i don't think a spoiler would change your average mpg.

If it's angled too much and causing lots of drag it could, doesn't need to be heavy

For you being a normal driver you will be better off getting a intake.. it will help you in gas milage...

theres another thread about this but i dont know where it is and its like 6 months old.... i think i remember blake talking about it. anyways, if i can remember correctly the problem was solved by disconnecting the car battery for like 30 min and then reconnecting it and it reset the computer and the cars that had that issue started getting 30+ MPG...... its worth a try, not hard to disconnect and reconnect the battery

Do you drive mostly city? That would be a big reason your mpg is low.

Also the MPG computer is not always correct, mine says ill avg about 30mpg or so but when i do the math myself its like 27 or 28

Before resetting the ECU let me ask you this. Are you relying on the digital dash to give you the average MPG or are you calculating it manually?

Do this if you haven't already: Fill up and jot down the amount of gallons, drive around like you usually do, when you need to fill up again, take the # of miles you've driven and divide the # of gallons into that so it would look like this:

15gal divided by 320 miles = 21.3 miles per gallon. or15.2 divided by 350 miles = 23.0 miles per gallon

Compare that with what the digital dash is reading out and if it's really off, take it to the dealer!

Disconnecting the battery will not reset the ECU. It'll reset your radio though. There is a gas pedal sequence that can reset the ECU and it has been the same since my 2003 350Z, technosquare has that procedure on their website, Its also posted on a few other sites and probably here somewhere.

Unless something has changed with Gen 4 Altimas (gen 1 Coupes) disconecting the battery will not reset the ECU.

spoilers dont have a purpose besides being cosmetic....unless youre doing like 100+mph

I've looked all over and can't find the pedal procedure. Only the screwdriver method. I want to reset my ECU too cause I'm getting 21.8 mpg...

ok let me rephrase that, it doesn't reset the ECU.... the car adapts to the way a driver drives. if you drive really hard 24/7 you'll feel that your car is faster when you stomp on the gas then someone who cruises all the time. sometimes, "**** happens" and it screws up and gives you bad gas mileage. unplugging the battery resets that and i know for a fact it does because i driver really hard all the time and each time i reset it the car isnt as responsive and gets better MPG. for what ever reason sometimes the system screws up and people have said that has fixed there problem, me i've never had the issue because i just do 100+ everyday so my MPG is never good (unless i cruise on long trips on the hwy, then i get really good gas mileage)

i definitely need to give this a shot.i'm getting way worse gas mileage than anyone has mentioned here, i get about 18..i dont know the exact number. ive monitored it myself and used the car's monitor for mpg but its still a lot lower than i would want. i guess it could be where i live since there are so many lights and stop signs, on the highway i get pretty good gas mileage, yet still less than some of you other coupes
