I noticed this last winter, and I'm starting to notice it again now that it's getting cold. When the car is cold and I start the car, I hear a small screech after startup. My starter is original and the belts have been done less that 2 years ago. Any ideas. I don't want to get stuck.

a slightly loose belt from cold contraction I'd think a minor retightening will fix it.

also check idler pully bearings, which make that noise as first sign of failing

I get the same thing; I think its the starter, sometimes when the spline comes out to spin the flywheel it doesn't retract fast enough which causes that noise.

It could be a sign that your starter is going.

I hope mine doesn’t die for quite some time because those things are ridiculously expensive.

check the play in the belts.... You should be able to pull on the belt about 1/4 inch before it really starts getting tight...

If thats the case its easy enough to tighten the belts....
