Cloning only really works to a replacement hard drive. Sounds like this was an attempt to move files to make them usable on a different computer. If the goal is simply to replace the hard drive (assuming that's the only thing that is failing on the current laptop), this would work.nissangirl74 wrote:Would any of this info help?
Ah, so you put Altezza lights on each side of your monitor, and sent text messages to your computer asking it if it's okay for you to press the save button???numbnuts240 wrote:now, i'm completely nala-like when it comes to computers,

My bad, didn't know I was crossing the line. NO!!!!!!! Don't want nothing to happen to Nico!!! Won't happen again.Beancooker wrote:It's okay to skirt around the subject of pirated programs, but lets not start posting sites where this stuff is available.
Unfortunately I will make the thread go away if it gets over the line. I'm just looking out for NICOclub. Nothing personal guys.
Since you are the nerd King, I will take what youve said under serious consideration.RobPaulson wrote:apple beat me to it.
i'll go ahead and confirm his advice though, PS adds entries into your registry, its not copy/pastable.
very few applications run without windows reg entries now-a-days.
rich, you can find ur 'cd' again, dont worry, the bay wasnt the only place to find this stuff
One more thing, I SEVERELY DISCOURAGE any kind of imaging or cloning of machines after they've entered what I call the "everyday work zone". Once you have installed a single random application beyond your basic office/browser/chatclient, taking an image/clone of the drive is just counter productive. in conclusion, completely forget that imaging/cloning exists unless your a more advanced user, it'll just get you in trouble.
Where would you recommend cloning a drive, then? I tend to think I'm a more advanced user than most (definitely not all), and I have never had the desire to clone a drive. Also, unless I'm just being dumb right now, I can't think of a reason I would need to.RobPaulson wrote:in conclusion, completely forget that imaging/cloning exists unless your a more advanced user, it'll just get you in trouble.
Rather helpful if you are running servers. For the basic "worker bee" PC, absolutely useless.AppleBonker wrote:

Edit: That kind of came off sounding like a jackass, not my intention. I'm just trying to figure out why one would want to do this, legitimate question.
Fair enough. I wasn't thinking about how you'd first start your backup in this case. I'm certainly familiar with having an array that is hot-swappable, but I didn't think of how it would originate.Beancooker wrote:Rather helpful if you are running servers. This. My view of clone/images is that they should be used to lock in a base state of your PC that you can revert back to once every 6 months or so.Beancooker wrote:Rather helpful if you are running servers.
FTFY. And hell ya im the king nerd. Bow down b****es.Koshin wrote:Since you are the nerd King, I will take what youve said under serious consideration. Thanks G
