I can get a KA24DE with transmission for $50. The problem with the motor is the timing chain snapped and bent all the valves. Could I just replace the valves or would I need to replace the whole head?

Also, what parts are NECCESARY for a timing chain swap? Do you NEED the tensioners and guides?

it really depends on the severity of the damage . if the piston dents are close to the walls, if the valve guides are bent and so on. if you go to the trouble of putting the ***** timing chain, or chains in your case on. i would buy a timing set with sprockets and the tensioner and guide kit. theoretically a chain would last forever in a lubricated environment if the tensior and guide were frequently replaced. so if a chain broke, or rattles it is the tensioner/chain fault

You can get a used head for about $150 shipped. I got mine this way. I have not put it in yet but it looks great. You could also purchase the whole timing set from someone for very cheap (chains, guides, tensioners, sprokets). For about $25.

you might have to redo the guides, and maybe the seats. any decent machine shop can do those no problem.
